Why is it that DII nationals is always in a cooler spot than the DI nationals? Last year...DII was in California, this year they are in Pensacola Fl. Meanwhile, DI has recently had theirs in Waterloo IA and Terra Haute IN. If I would have known this...I def. would have ran DII instead.
well, maybe if DI had to build houses to boost the NCAA's image the day before the race they would have sweeter locations....p.s. yeah, Pomona is a decent place, but we've also had them in Ashland, Ohio and Evansville, Indiana in recent years.
I have to say that even with the snow, I really enjoyed the meet at Ashland, although I also have to say that the meet in NC sucked hard for being in a nice weather state
Evansville is about on par with Terre Haute as a town, but their course was really cool. I hope NC's goes back there.
DIII always has their national champs in the upper midwest so it's centrally located so they don't need to pay as many teams the airfare to fly out. Usually flat but really cold and much of a vacation destination. I've never been and probably never will so It means no different to me.
except for when they were in boston, or carlisle, pa, or spokane....

indiana = real xc muddy, cold tough course... florida.flat and fast..
i'm not taking anything away from d2 I think there are lots of d2 teams that can compete with d1 squads!

Last year, Pomona was anything but "cool"...
pomona was the first xc race i have ever been to with water stops
i think I am still dehydrated from Carey North Carolina. That was some hot racing weather!
Do not underestimate the challenge of running in the Florida heat. Pensacola is quite flat and fast; however, November 18th is not winter here. Around this time of the year it can get as high as 85 degrees with a normal temperature of 74 degrees. The relative humidity ranges from 96%-42% with 69% as the average. This is the average summer weather in places like Des Moines, Chicago, Grand Rapids, and the like.
Some runners have not been in this kind of weather and it can be disasterous to some runners.
Heat can kill.
