What kind of course is Colorado's state course...It must be pretty rough, with those times...well, I guess you have to add in the altitude.

Colorado Springs had 20inches of snow 2 days before the meet, if that helps. The snow was all gone as it was the 50-70 degrees after the snow. Since it is a dirt course, one can image what 20 inches of melted snow would do to a dirt course.
Was fun races to watch. medina and vanatta really are studs
That is the 3A results, small schools above. 5a (Large school) was won in 15:37 (Richard Medina, he ran 9:13 solo for 3200 last May at state), 2nd 15:52. Katie Vanatta, daughter of two parents who were scholarship runners at SE Missouri 20 years ago ran 18:16 for the fastest girls time of the day, on most Colorado courses she was running 17:30 ish winning by over a minute.
There were stretches of the course where there was still some snow on the course. The majority of the route is along a golf course service road and dirt trail, so the runoff from the grass "pooled" up on the course. Lots of slip, sliding and falling. The grass was so wet that if you stood on it the tops of your shoes would be covered with water. Most folks ran 40-50 seconds slower than their season bests.

20 inches of snow? Not even close!!! at most 8 to 10.Most of it was also gone by friday afternoon. The course was better then most think. I would get correct information before you post.
The course conditions were VERY different than the 14:49 effort by Harkrader 4 years ago... Very muddy and slick, comparable to that of UW parkside in 2004. After 5 races the 5A boys were running in some sloppy stuff. Medina's effort on that particular course, was probably comparable to a state meet record under better course conditions. Being at altitude and having numerous switchbacks, the course isn't very fast to begin with. Hats off to Medina for a great, solo effort!
My applogies. The news said 20. I live in Centennial where we had 9 inches. My parents are in Castle Rock and got 15. Monument Hill had over 20. I did say all of the snow was melted. The course was very runnable, but by the end, it was very muddy, and very slick. The course was close to, but not quite the same condition as the footlocker course in Kenosha Solinski's JR year, which was a mud fest.
I would wager that the course was plenty slower than if there had been no snow.
Vannatta ran 18:07 last year to win, and what 18;18 this year? I would wager that she is better than last year.
Looking at times, the course was about 15-20 seconds slower than last year.
But it has been lengthened by 200m since Harkrader set his 14:49 record. Medina's time was probably superior.
v6
the course has not been lengthened, it is rumor. But Medina's effort was probably equal to or better than Harkrader's.
Damn Longmont. My old H.S. let me down again.
Are you kidding?! Longmont probably over-achieved, if anything. They were sixth in the region...
Course was pretty muddy and the grass sections were ridiculously sloshy and slow. A fun day and not one for time comparisons. Harkrader's 14:49, although a fantastic effort, was on a dry day, when the course was about 4800m-3 miles at most. It is now closer to 5000m. I wheeled it last year at 4900m on the nose, and another coach got closer to 4950m. Don't know why it's so difficult...I'd say McGuire's 15:06 two years ago is probably the best run to date, although Medina was pretty damn impressive in the muck. The 15-20 second weather handicap mentioned earlier is probably pretty fair.
