800- Jewel, Weeks, Robinson
Mile-Beegle, Gillete, Schelander
5k-Dinzeo, Sitler, Mcbride
3k-Beegle, Schelander, ??? toss up between Sitler, Dinzeo, Keller, Mcbride
I'm only counting 2 wins from Ship Athletes.
Forgot DMR and 4x800
Ship easily wins DMR, and 4x800. But still not every distance event.
My prediction for what it's worth:
The bubble explodes because it can't fit Ship's huge ego in it. Then we all go outside and Edinboro wins every distance event because we are men and aren't afraid of training hard and putting it all on the line when it counts.
When is the last time edinboro won outdoor psacs? they always seem to run fast the first meet in florida but I assume that is all carry over from xc - which I will conend they dominate.
The problem likely rests with Doug Watts unequivocal love for ice fishing and lack of time to coach track. I am not saying he doesn't spend the time with his athletes - fore he is well known to take athletes out on his boat. Watts just needs to look out for their best interests and keep enough life vests aboard. I hear those fines are hefty.
Sad day for PSAC Running:

Larry Levy is turning over in his grave...millersville track and xc to be cut...

Wrong, Watts doesn't ice fish.
From the article...
5. If the public can raise $200,000, would the three programs be reinstituted?
In order to continue to generate the operating costs, an endowment of $4 million would need to be established in order to sustain $200,000 per year. The university is not considering reinstating the programs.
Sad day for the PSAC... gotta love the distortion of the title 9 athletic participation numbers and gov. corbett's budget cuts to higher education to justify this. What upsets me the most is the refusal to reinstate the program if public funds could be raised. As a Lancaster county native I feel we have a large a base of millersville and former runners with pockets that I would open wide with donations to at least raise the funds to allow the team to compete next year.
Unfortunately this trend probably in the PSAC won't end with clarion and the Ville...
Although we are very torn up by this development here at Millersville we hope to help all of these young men be able to move on and continue their athletic experience in some way.
I hope this doesn't snow ball to other schools in the PSAC as I feel like this conference is a strong and viable place to take part in Cross Country and Track and Field for men.
I am very disappointed and saddened by this action.
i am assuming the cuts to the program will take place next year so that the team can finish out the year, correct me if i am wrong
Andy,
I am sorry to hear about everything and sad that the conference is dropping a program that has such a rich history.
To note: Correct me if I am wrong. The University says they are saving "200,000" a year by not having to support the men's track team and xc. If you lose 30 students that are paying $8,361 for Tution and required fees, throw in a meal plan and room and board you have $16,925 or $507,750 coming into the school thanks to having a mens program that creates a reason for those 30 Student-Athletes to choose Millersville and not go somewhere else that has the same major and athletic opportunities. If the Students only live pay tuitions and required fees you have $250,380. Wouldn't it be worth it to have a program that brings in an extra 30 students and with that a half million dollars to the school annualy?
The D3 programs with no scholarships use athletic programs as major money makers in getting kids attacted to the school. They could keep the travel budget the same and maybe not travel very far but try and get the team up to 50 or 60 kids and that would offset the costs associated with the program and make it a worth while investment for the university.
Am I looking at this the wrong way?
Unfortunately with the increasing number of applications that all of the PSAC schools are getting, it probably won't be too difficult for them to replace those tuition & fees with other non-athlete students.
This just seems like another clear-cut example of the outdated Title 9 being used as a crutch for a University to direct more money towards a football team that has been terrible for as long as I can remember. They say that their athletic programs will "more accurately reflect the student body at Millersville", trying to imply that women are somehow benefitted by the fact that men no longer have the opportunity to compete in XC and Track at MU.
Our wonderful governor also definitely contributed to this, with his budget cuts that came down especially hard on many of the PSAC schools. Definitely wouldn't piss on him if he was on fire.
If you can make it to the Millersville area thursday evening there is a student senate meeting at 6:30 in the Student Memorial Center (all are welcome). If the team is going down the guys agreed last night to go down fighting for the next 2.5 months. They will represent the program and themselves in the most positive way while doing this. All support is appreciated.
millersville's teams getting cut is a shame, especially with them consistently turning out great performances, and with talent like Mcbride. Talk about sum SHIT....
ok sooo back to predictions.. whose gonna win and what times? whose a possible sleeper pick?
The Man takes down another PSAC running program...what a crock. Unfortunately, I don't think this will be the last program to hit rock bottom. Fight the good fight and End Title IX!
as team after team slips away what is the future of this? what will college cross country look like fifty years from now?
i count myself as a victim of title ix, and my biggest regret is- although i did fight back- not making a big enough splash that as many people as I could make aware, became aware, of the other side of title ix.
those who are affected by this should do everything they can now, while they are directly affected. make your actions count.
