Don't blame this stuff on Shippensburg. Pretty much all of the threads are talking about LHU, Edinboro, and Ship. Why is it that Shippensburg is getting blamed for it? It's not us, we are busy training and getting ready for indoor.

In terms of Ship, Haven, and Boro having 10 guys run 14:30...come on now. When's the last time the PSAC (as a conference) have 10 guys run that fast? Quite frankly, I don't think it's EVER happened.
I don't think it happend back when Uriel and gang were running for Boro and the Rock was strong with Laughlin and group and Ship was tough with Randy Lowe.
It has not happened, but it could have, we had the horses.
In my days Edinboro was singulary cross-country focused, not track. Many of the Boro guys carried heavier academic workloads during track season and did not focus as hard on track. After the 1985 disaster (finishing second) there was a pall over the team. It did not matter if we had 12 guys break 30 minutes for 10K in the spring, if we did not win Nationals it would've been some dark, dark days at the Boro.
We simply did not care about track.
Additionally, most of the guys at the Boro were just racers, not fans of the sport or knowledgable about times. We had no idea about times or national lists, we just raced. And we never knew about which tracks being fast or which meets were fast. We ran on asphalt tracks often.
There was no internet, cell phones , twitter, or any of that information saturation. We had to wait for printed material, mags newsletters, etc. It was a different era.
This I do know: In the 80's when I was a senior and Rauber and Renninger were freshman, if we took our team of guys out west to one of those fast meetson fast tracks the Boro alone would have 15-18 guys under 15 minutes and 8-10 under 14:30. The SLOWEST guy on our National Championship top 7 was a 4:10 miler. And on the entire roster that year in 1986 there were 12 guys that eventually earned a Cross Country All-America distinction.
There were a handful more of those type of runners in the league. A bunch of kids had run low 14:20’s or were of that Ilk. And that is without the faster tracks of today.
It was a different time though, different types of guys. Just racers.
Platt...thanks for the great post. As I said before on here, I grew up wanting to become a fast runner because of y'all. My high school coach (John Smith, Punxsutawney), used to share boro stories with us...told us about the depth of the team, the just go out and race somebody approach of Watts' teams...and how dominating y'all were back in the day. No idea how true the stories were, but they seem to have been at least directionally accurate :)I think that there were at least 3-4 times/eras when the PSAC could've had 10 guys under 14:30...but, it never happens because they never load up a 5K race. I know that there are a few PSAC coaches that freuent this messagre board. If you're reading this, load up the 5K at Penn Relays. I'd love to see the entire group go out and just bust some fast, fast times. This is a good crop of runners...give them a chance to go at it and run wicked fast. Hoovis
so when and where is everyone opening up their post winter break season?
Gillette showed up outdoor after a tough indoor PSAC meet. And in XC was far and above the level of Bud. So was Schelander. So was Stetler. So was Boyer. So was Hilton. So was Zondlo. So was Monroe.
This is a stupid debate. These guys will manhandle Bud.
What is his 800 PB anyway?
you guys need to get a life. how about you just watch some races and stop being idiots about everything.
What were the splits on the Lock Haven 4xMile? 17:31...
Founds this: The foursome of Josh Gainer (State College, Pa./Akron Univ.), Nick Hilton (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township), Mitch Miller (Morrisville-Eaton, N.Y./Morrisville-Eaton) and Alex Monroe (Lewistown, Pa./Indian Valley) clocked a 17:31.77 to nearly break a school record.
Their mile leg splits were 4:26, 4:16, 4:24 and 4:25, respectively.
AJ Johnson also ran a quality 8:38 for 3k. Getz ran a not so well 9:00
It's still VERY early in the season. The Haven guys will be ready when it matters as always. This was just a rust buster for them.
Thanks for clearing that up.
Its a shame what has happened to this board. When I was a freshmen it was slippery rock bashing everybody on here, now its Ship. I guess it shouldn't be unexpected though since they just keep bringing in low character Guys.
Anyways I couldn't agree with you more Observer, location is everything and that is one of the most important reason Ship, Lock, Boro, and sometimes the Rock typically tend to lead the psac. Boro has erie and a gateway to ohio, Ship has a strong hold on South central pa, Lock is pretty much in the center of the state, and the Rock has Suburban Pittsburgh.
"Low character guys"? Seems like a harsh comment considering you have no clue who posted what. This is an anonymous message board, you're always going to have people bashing others. It isn't fair to place the blame on one team and make generalizations saying we are lacking character.
Any thoughts on some developments from this weekend?? I know it's really early, but there were a few things that caught my mind this week:
Dinzeo from Cal ran some solid times on a slow track - 4:27.2 and 8:54 at WVU wit very little competition. Looks like he's in good shape and it should be interesting to see how he can do when you get him in a race.
There were some fast miles run for it being so early: Gillete and Schelander running 4:16. at Bucknell, and most notably an IUP runner, Keller, going 4:15. Where did that come from?
Also some decent times run in the 800 this weekend, with Saparito from ESU posting up a decent time, 1:56.6, and McNabb from Mansfield getting his name on the list in a speedy 1:57.3.
Seems like it's going to be another fast year.. anyone hitting some big meets next week? Should be interesting to see how things go when the big meets roll around.
Heck of a race by Beegle and the Ship DMR. 9:55. The announcer from Flotrack had Beegle's mile split at 4:10. Haven had a B team in but Hilton ran a 3:03 or so for the 1200.
Also, some decent times in the 5k, Monroe at 14:58 and AJ Johnson at 15:01.
Should be sweet to see some times dropped tomorrow!
that dmr was a nail-biter!!! Beegle was kicking like madman. ship is looking really good right now.
Yeah that DMR was insane!! Congrats to Beegle and Ship for an impressive performance. Anybody know other splits??
Nice 5k's by Johnson and Monroe, and a really nice 3k by Hilton.
Anybody see results from the meets other than PSU??
Steve F***ing Wainwright.
That is all.
Word on the street is that ralph white has been canned at IUP. Any confirmation or reasons for his firing?
Here are ships OFFICIAL splits for Ship's men's DMR at Penn State National:
Matt Gillette - 3:03.3
Kyle Raguz - 49.5
Pio Mandato - 1:55.9
Bryan Beegle - 4:06.6
