Defiantly do not run at race pace for long runs. Long runs are meant to keep your heart rate up. If you do that it will help your endurance. Thats what long runs are supposed to do. A good mile time for eighth grade, well around 5:00 so the fact that you are already there is amazing. The 5k, well depending how many hills and turns. I think if you run with more variety, i.e. speed workouts, long-runs, medium distance, and recovery days you should knock down the 5k time. A good 5k time would be around 18:00 or so depending on the course. Good luck and remember having fun is an extremely important part of running.
