I was looking through an old "The Runner" Mag an saw a pic of Joseph Nzau wearing a Four Corners singlet. I remember him and a bunch of Kenyans who were sponsored by Nike in running for that club. Remember Kirk Pfeffer, he ran for a club called Another Dimension. Who else can recall some club that elites ran for back in the days?

Anybody remember Christ Striders? They certainly weren't of the level being talked about here, but I remember them at all the races in the early 80's.
I remember the Tobias Striders from the 70s, but never heard of the Christ Striders.
Some other great clubs of that era: Jamul Toads, GBTC, Moosehead TC, SMTC (a few middle distance guys), Club Northwest, West Valley TC, San Fernando TC.

in canada the Kajaks used to be the premier distance running club. they had a number of olympians and canadian record holders.
too bad they are hardly a shadow of what they used to be.

A few rather nice ones, as I recall. Of course they had a deep stable of 800m guys (headlined by Gray), but they also had Todd Harbour, and wasn't Billy McChesney wearing their singlet for a while, too?
SMTC had alot of decent guys in the late mid to late 70's, when all of their guys lived and trained in santa monica...not just sign on for trip to europe and wear the jersey as alot did in the 80s......some of the top guys were: jerald jones; 3:57 mile, 13:30 5k, jeff jirile, 3:58 mile, tom bryant, charlie mcmullen, 3:56 mile, 215 marathon, bill mccoulough, 8:25 steeple and many guys who were high placers in local races and would typically crowd the top 15 with 8-9 guys, from 29:30 to 30:30. they had guys from 1:47 in the 800m to sub 220 in the marathon, who were not national class guys but very good on a regional level. They were very deep between 1977 and 1980 with alot of guys from back east and the midwest who moved out west, in search of prolonging their post collegiate careers.
