Keep in mind no one wrote like anything on HSers until a couple years ago, and the overall talent level was significantly lower than it is now. With the increase in attention comes an increase in talent. And the only place I could ever see a HSer getting more internet attention than a stud like Dan Lincoln is dyestat, a High School board. AJ Acosta is argued about because of his personality. If he was a quiet kid, no one would really be chatting that much about him.
I have subscribed to The Harrier when it was done by John Goodridge over 20 years ago, and then in the last 5 years when it was done by Marc. I have to say it was pretty lame and unsubstantial both ways.
But you are wrong about HS press, even back in '84-'87 when I got the Harrier it was mostly filled with HS news. It had an issue with every HS State champion in every division in it. It had training profiles for college and HS programs. They were lame and rarely more than a page long, but they had them. This seems to be the norm for all running magazines, that articles, profiles and interviews must be just 1-2 pages as if the paper costs a lot of money.
Bloom may be a good writer, I am not sure, but his Cross-Country Running book is good only because of the interviews and information on specific people it has in there. I have always found his writing style goofy and not very polished. His Harrier seems to need a lot more editing for things like left out words and misspellings.
I have never met him personally so I can't comment on that.
