Ok, my coach said we might go to ECAC instead of the NCAA D3 Regional meet... Is there a qualifying standard to qualify for the ECAC or is open?

for cross country or for track?
for cross it's open, but you can't go to Nationals at all unless you go to Regionals.
They are not on the same weekend. No need to choose, unless it's because of a budgetary reason. This year, ECACs are on 11/4, Regionals on 11/11.
ECACs are typically not super competitive. Most of the top teams that go, do not run their top runners. Check out past results, you'll see this for sure.
Prob for budget reasons since we are a small d3 school.. Last year ECAC's were a week before regionals, but this year our regional is at Waynesburg on 11/11 and ECAC's are on 11/11 as well. I wouldn't care if I was running for a division 5 school (i know there are only 3), NCAA's are NCAA's and ECAC just can't compete with that.
I see you are correct on the date. The ECAC conference has always been, how should I say, less than organized. This is just another example of what NOT to do with your conference championship. Every school that belongs to the ECAC should be going to their own Regional. Pretty stupid IMO. Why would Williams even agree to host the ECACs on that date? They, like many others, will just run their "B" teams for sure now.
I agree with you that it doesn't make sense to goto ECACs only. Maybe your coach will reconsider?
Almost every team at the ECAC runs their B team, resting their A team for regionals. Totally not worth it to go. The Tufts course was always fun in a brutal, slow kind of way, but the competition sucks.
Williams schedule shows the meet on 4 November -- I'd guess a typo on the ECAC site.
yeah, ecac's are the first week of nov. and ALL regional meets are the 2nd weekend.
How is the Williams course? From the course map I saw it is rougly similar to Van Cortlandt - two loops, each with first half around grass fields and second half in the backhill woods... but how hilly are those back woods?
Our course is reasonably tough consisting of mostly grass loops and a few miles on a dirt/wood chip trail. We have hosted ECAC in the past and it is in fact this weekend NOT the weekend of regionals. As a team we will be represented by B teams on both the mens and womens side. If you would like to get an idea about times we hosted the Purple Valley Classic which attracted a few good teams so you can take a look at the times that were run and make comparisons from there. We have been told that there will be 47 mens teams and 41 for the women.
