Really smart/creative people can get further from first principles, but if they are lacking years of study and application or knowledge of how to access them, they may never get to the point they are creating something useful or unique.

Lol what a troll. Most of mathematics is about proof, where you literally discover and prove why certain things are the way they are. There is tons of creativity involved in that and very little rote memorization, if any.

It's a real snooze fest.
Not everyone is going to like math. In most cases for this group of people, I feel like they were taught it in a horrible way to begin with, and did not get to see what further math looks like with a good foundation. Oh well

OP probably didn’t get educated beyond memorizing times tables in lower primary.
Math is not nearly as important when everyone has a calculator in their pocket. However, it can still be somewhat lucrative, especially in finance/insurance but it’s a grind and you have to be in the top 2-3% of intelligence for mathematics.
Creativity is useful, if you have the skills to create and more importantly sell what you create.
I read a headline recently that personality is more important than intelligence today. I think that is true. If you are a top 10% salesperson, presenter and leader with an average IQ, you can make really good money.
I do well, but most of my friends that make more than me are in some type of sales, including entrepreneurs. My boss couldn’t do 90% of my work, but he’s better at public speaking and motivating a large group of employees.
