Since fighting broke out between the Sudanese Armed Forces and rebel paramilitaries a year ago, experts estimate over 14,000 people have been killed and millions displaced and facing starvation.
There were protests for years about Darfur. Difference now is:
1. We’re (USA) providing the weapons being used in Gaza. 2. We’re providing the legal protection through the UN.
3. The students are protesting to try to force their universities to divest their endowment from the military contractors and developers who are providing weapons to Israel.
None of those apply to Sudan. We don’t give them weapons, we don’t veto UN resolutions for them, and we don’t invest there. Maybe that’ll help your friend understand the difference.
NEW YORK, NY — As pro-Palestine groups continued to gather on campus following the establishment of the Gaza Solidarity Encampment, Columbia University protestors clarified that they only want "Death to America" after America...
The students are protesting our country’s involvement with Israel and specifically the IDF and our government’s military and financial support of the IDF and their war in Gaza. Over 30k people have died the vast majority of which are civilians, including over 12k children and they were killed with military weapons and funds that our government give to the IDF. That’s why they are protesting. None of the things listed above are happening in Sudan so it’s a totally different situation. Get your head out of fox new’s behind and use your little brain.
Thanks for the input! Sounds like you know what you are talking about!
Can you tell my friend why the students aren't protesting against the Ukraine war? The USA is providing weapons to them also!
Thanks In Advance!
Sure. Ukraine is a sovereign nation that was invaded by a fascist communist country intent on taking Ukranian territory because they think their military can pull it off. Seeing how we fought two World Wars and established an international order that explicitly bans the acquisition of territory by military force, Ukraine needs help defending itself. Israel was attacked by terrorists, and should be fighting a counter terrorism operation. Instead, they’re starving children to death, preventing aid from getting in, and indiscriminately bombing civilians.
Israel is the one that’s acquired territory by military force, and illegally moved Israeli civilians into it. They also just announced the largest land grab in the West Bank a couple of weeks ago for settlement expansion.
Hope that helps your friend understand the difference.

No, I'm still confused, especially about the "indiscriminately bombing civilians".
I see here that Ukraine appears to be doing the "indescriminately bombing civilians" thing also.
Because American universities do not have millions of dollars invested in firms tied to Sudanese paramilitary forces. Hope that helps!
Thanks!
Maybe there could be some protests in support of American universities divesting any investments in China, since apparently China supplies arms to the Sudan!
When can be expect the universites to divest from China investments? Pretty soon I would think!!
I'll answer it this way, as a teaching moment, and trying to make you use your critical thinking skills. Think of all the reasons you aren't interested in anything that happens in, with, or to Sudan, and then ask yourself whether college students in America may have the same lack of interest in Sudan.

That's what I was afraid of.
The student protestors (by far, light skinned people) have no interest or concerns about dark skinned people being killed in the Sudan.
It appears that the students protestors are nothing more than racists.

What a letdown, I expected better of them.
I suppose you could try to attribute the lack of interest in Sudan to racism. That's straight from the Woke playbook 101. Works well for trolling. Not so much for real conversation.
