I know of some people who came from Kenya/India (I know those are very different places, but their family is multi cultural) and the grandparents who were old and needed more medical help purposely moved to Canada because of the free medical care. They didn't ever work there and pay taxes into the system but now Canada's current tax payers are paying for a bunch of their stuff.
Leaves less disposable income for the wealthy, limiting savings, thus spending (or overspending) on property. I am in the US and see a lot of people over-bid for a property that is not worth the money simply because they 'must' have it. Pricing on homes that will hit the market will depend upon the purchases made today so this snowballs to the detriment of the middle class.
A few years back, healthcare in Canada used to be envied. I know Canadian doctors that are top of their field, internationally, who work at second tier universities. So, there is a lot of innovation that comes out of every corner of the country. I cannot speak of Trudeau but most Americans think highly of their brothers to the north. It might be the best cross-boarder relationship in the entire world. Progress is in spurts which means that neighbors occasionally get ahead of each other but not for long. So, stay with it. Canada is a good country.
