Almost certainly a sub-4 attempt by both. Tostenson is probably pissed about Oregon relays and Powell is probably pretty damn confident after his 1k record. I have no doubts that both of them will probably go for it.
Now, whether or not they actually get it is gonna be up to the weather. Forecast for Portland shows high chance of rain and temperatures in the high 40s. I don't see a sub-4 happening, but you never know. Mike Slagowski broke 4 solo at the same meet on a wet track a few years ago.
nathan neil
Like clockwork, someone always reminds a thread about Neil.
And they are always right. Good luck to him.
I've been told by one of the top athletes that they and another athlete have a plan to hammer 60's from the gun and see who comes with.
Last year they let the pace lull way too much. This year, barring the weather changes that plan, it will be different.
i hope they can do a sub 4. Neil's tough hopefully rain won't bother him
Neil is the show the other 2 will be hanging on for dear life.
powell broke the 1k national record and run 8:41 for 3200. He should be a contender
In b4 someone says Landon Heemeyer has a shot.
That was by far the weakest HS record ever - it only stood because the 1000 is never run
Kessler's 1500m time averaged faster over 1000
Psychologically I give the edge to Powell. Sure, nobody runs the 1000, but it was a big accomplishment and done at 3:50 mile pace. Tostensen is talented and will clearly break 4:00 some day, but after watching his attempt last week, I don't think it will happen for him tomorrow. Hope I'm wrong. The hype and pressure around his Oregon Relays attempt might not have helped. And it's hard to discount Neil. He's impressive, and knows how to close. Will be fun to watch!

what 1000M record did he break? Doesn't Andrews hold the 1000M in 2:22.x?

any updates??
Neil wins in 4:01
I get the fast kids want to be racing at a meet like this and not pacing, but they cant find anyone that can get them through in an even 2:00/2:01?
