Please tell me what other country in the world arms their teachers. Sad sad day in the USA.

Tissue?
This was in response to an elementary school shooting in Nashville in 2023 by a FTM transgender man.
3 state lawmakers were protesting gun violence at the state house. 2 of them, the black ones, were expelled.
And now we have this bill arming teachers.
Welcome to Tennessee!

Concealed. So no Scopes?
Insanity. Are they providing liability insurance for teachers that elect to carry at school?
I guess what I would do is get certified but then tell them that unless they pay me as both a teacher AND a police officer/security guard, I'm not actually arming myself at work.
Furthermore, many HS males, especially one(s) with bad intentions, could easily disarm a teacher and word would rapidly spread about which teachers were packing (ie which teacher had a an easily appropriated gun on school property). Bad guys don't even need to bring their own gun now!
Will that tissue be used with the thoughts and prayers when an innocent person (student, teacher, administrator...) is killed?
So we are going from zero guns to like 30 guns in schools? sounds like a great plan. Are these teachers going to have extensive background checks and law enforcement training? Why do we assume teachers are the most stable people to start carrying around K-12?
This will be used to blame teachers that don't carry. If there is a school shooting and there are no armed teachers, the right wing will blame them for not doing so, because they failed to be "good guys with guns."
"We passed a law allowing them to protect our children, and they failed us all. They were right there... they could have stopped this. These teachers failed our community and their students..."
Plan on it.
There have been countless threads created by conservative members of this board that have called out teachers and their "many" shortcomings. Seems to be one of the many talking points of the far-right. So now we are OK with these teachers who are said to be lazy and unqualified to now carry guns in the classroom too?
Make that make sense to me.
the world has turned upside down.
This is embarrassing.
Teachers do not enter the profession to be martyrs. But that is what is expected in TN. Amazingly, it is not expected of the police, as Uvalde demonstrated.
tn legislature has gone full on crrrrazzzy. they are going too far right, and they will eventually be turned out in favor of more reasonable people.
the dems controlled tn for years and years, they thought they had a permanent majority until they became too corrupt, too bloated, too cocky, then they got booted out. same will happen to the gop
Well, Tennessee is a Republican state and leans very right. They voted 67% for Trump in the 2020 election so this isn't too surprising.
A lot of school shootings are done with AR-15's. Although a pistol is a good weapon it really isn't a match for a superior weapon like the AR-15. Is it better than nothing? Yes, but is arming teachers really a good idea? Time will tell.
Republican answer to gun violence is always; we need more guns. What could go wrong. Lol.
I'm a teacher who loves kids and guns. If this passes in my state you can bet I'll be carrying the next day. No Rambo moves, but prepared to defend our class in the unlikely event of attack by a lunatic.
Well, we expect nothing else from our right wing leaders in Nashville.
Of course this won't solve anything.
I doubt that many teachers will take the course and carry a weapon. Who is paying for the guns anyway? Usually teachers don't even get enough money for class room supplies but now they get a pack of bullets each month?

What are you gonna do when one of your students, that is bigger and stronger than you and happens to be a lunatic, wrestles your gun away from you and puts one in your skull?

A responsible gun owner is training regularly regardless. Ammo isn't cheap, but you can buy periodically in bulk through ammoseek.com.

lol I'm not going to open carry, nor announce it. I'm not afraid of any of my students.
