Wish I worked at an animal sanctuary or something like that. Damn.

This is called wisdom. Glad you've found it.
Misanthrope
Op's attitude is consistent with aging. The older one gets the less they can be of use to humans, economy, wars, politics. Might as well enjoy nature and animals.
The natural world is magical and full of wonder! And it is something that the civilized world takes for granted or otherwise ignores. Have you read A Sand County Almanac by Aldo Leopold? His essays resonate deeply with any nature lover.
From the foreword:
"There are some who can live without wild things, and some who cannot. These essays are the delights and dilemmas of one who cannot. Like winds and sunsets, wild things were taken for granted until progress began to do away with them. Now we face the question whether a still higher ‘standard of living’ is worth its cost in things natural, wild, and free. For us of the minority, the opportunity to see geese is more important than television, and the chance to find a pasqueflower is a right as inalienable as free speech. These wild things, I admit, had little human value until mechanization assured us of a good breakfast, and until science disclosed the drama of where they come from and how they live. The whole conflict thus boils down to a question of degree. We of the minority see a law of diminishing returns in progress; our opponents do not."
Do you know what happens when two strange chimps encounter each other in the wild? They tear each other apart.
Nature, folks.
I have a suction mounted bird feeder that I will attach to my kitchen window later this week after I buy bird seed.
In the 1980s, I thought MTV was the greatest thing.
When the s**t really hits the fan, I'll already be long dead. Humans are essentially rival tribes of monkeys with nuclear weapons and no sense of self-preservation. Flinging poo is more important to primates than solving problems or cooperation. I do feel sad that younger generations will have to suffer the brunt of it.
There are too many dead squirrels in my area. Sht heads keep ruining them over.
The reality is that not all chimps are created equal. Some chips are lazy bastards, some decent and hardworking. Then there are the deranged, violent, and aggressive chimps. Some chimps, if they had the cognitive capacity, would even wish they could create a chimp world where all chimps are the same and have "equity". Luckily for the chimps they don't have ideas like this to deal with into perpetuity like humans do.
I sometimes think of how chimps deal with bad leaders when I see dictators like Kim Jong-Un and Vladimir Putin. The mean and nasty leader chimps usually get jumped by other lower ranking chimps and are ripped to shreds.
