She’s well ahead of everyone in the NCAA. Since she has a shot at making an olympic team, why not go pro now and just focus on getting those standards/training for the trials? Seems like a waste of her talent to continue in the NCAA at this point.
Firstly, even being able to participate in an Olympic Games is a unique experience that the majority of track and field athletes will not experience. It is a ‘pinnacle’ event in a career.
Secondly, the odds of Valby making the team in either the 5000m or 10000m a week ago appeared maybe 50/50. But the odds have now increased in the 10000m. Consequently, because it is now a real possibility, the question is what strategy is optimum for making the team.
Valby will probably need to be the defacto pacesetter in the 10000m race. As you stated, her best chances will be if she is fresh and peaked on that day.
They discussed this on tonight’s podcast. I don’t think I necessarily agree with them. They were suggesting Valby to run a 10000m Regionals, Natty’s and Trials race, hoping that one of those days is cool enough so that she can get another good time to give her a high ranking.
Unfortunately, if she were to attempt three 10000m races in a span of five weeks, she may jeopardize running her best 10000m at the Trials. Getting top 3 at the Trials needs to take top priority consideration, because that will most likely be essential, so why not try to get top three at the Trials, and do it running a time worthy of the ranking, if not the actual 30:40 OlyQualifying Time? She’s going to have to run a fast time anyway at the Trials in order to make top three, because she may not make top three in a slow tactical race.
You don’t have to “go pro” anymore. College athletes can make bank now.
But there is something to consider in putting full focus into the 10000m Trials race, and only running 5000m races through Natty’s, or even no more collegiate races before she graduates.
Parker Valby, NCAA D1, she has an opportunity to earn 5000m & 10000m victories.
If she skips NCAA to race fresh, U.S. trials: coin flip, making team, 5000m. Fresh she would probably make team, 10000m.
How would she do, 2024 Paris? Coin flip making 5000m final. Ten-thousand meters? Depending on the pace, (250 to 500)m behind winner.
Take opportunity to earn 5000m & 10000m college victories.
You are getting upvoted, but I don’t agree with your assessment that because she won’t medal, then less priority should be placed upon an Olympic Games berth versus garnering another one or two collegiate individual Championships.

What are the contractual conditions of Parker Valby’s NIL deal? Does Nike only have first refusal priority to match any alternative offers? For example, what if a company like Puma were to swoop in offering a huge deal to immediately start training for the Trials.

Alternatively, Nike could just offer her a pro contract to take effect almost immediately, so then there would be less political riff in the public’s eye with the University of Florida, should she were to hang around and graduate but not race any more collegiate races.
Two weeks ago, the OP’s question did not make very much sense, as it didn’t make sense when Rojo asked her the question at Indoor Natty’s. But the trials landscape has dramatically shifted over this past week, and now asking that question makes a lot more sense.
