Mark Coogan's suggested workouts for the 1500m runner appear varied and effective. Rapid work combined with short intervals at 1500m speed, 1km intervals at 5km speed and 400m intervals at 1500m speed will ensure the development of the necessary physiological aspects to successfully prepare for competition at this distance.
I mostly agree. There could be some variation on it. Rest in terms of standing versus jogging makes some difference. Throwing hills at threshold might be good (does that still count in the only do 3 workouts requirement or is it two one with hills and one without)?. That great thing about running workouts is there a million ways to be creative with them. Standing vs jogging rest, hills, interval hills (I have an alternating 200 meter workout which is on a trail loop with hill on the 200 side.) I might like the alternating 200s workout better than 400 -- definitely a fourth option. (200 5k pace, 200 threshold 5k-6k worth) A million ways to do Fartlegs, etc, etc.
