Thinking of purchasing an Ultrasound device. Will go with a 1 MHz model because I want the deeper reach for muscle recovery/prehab/rehab. Primary use will be on calves, hamstrings and maybe quads or lower back.
Questions for those of you who have knowledge of ultrasonic treatment: Is it OK to use ultrasound on a regular basis (daily or every-other day) for normal recovery of DOMS, keeping muscles supple, etc (normal conditioning type activity)? Or, should it only be used in treatment of injuries? In college I remember seeing some of the football players treated daily with ultrasound but they may have had chronic problems. Also, is it OK to use ultrasound on joints (knee, ankle, sacral area, etc.)? In the marketing materials there is mention of using the devices on joint areas but I'm wary anytime I work on my knees (currently using Red Light wraps and use EMS to strengthen my vastus medialis.) I slightly pulled a hamstring a couple of years ago (my only hamstring pull ever, would classify it as a 0.5 level strain) and the spot is still a bit stiff, so I'm thinking if the device does nothing more than break up scar tissue in that area it will be worth it.
I understand it is important to use ultrasound devices properly and not work on an area too long or damage can occur. I have a good understanding of anatomy and have gone through rehab enough in clinics to feel comfortable using different devices.
Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks.
