I will watch a women's D1 basketball game, but I have zero interest in the WNBA. Same with my daughter who is a basketball player.
A non-insignificant number of people enjoy watching men's D1 basketball over the NBA. The games mean so much more. But since the athleticism and talent in the NBA are so incredible, more people watch the NBA.
But on the women's side, you aren't watching for the highlight reels, and few people care who wins any particular WNBA game. Thus I would suspect that the WNBA will have a harder time growing in popularity than women's college basketball.
When there's another reason to root for them(College or national team) they can draw a crowd. I'm never going to watch a women's professional soccer league. But I'll watch the national team play and root for Team USA.
The people saying women's college ball or WNBA is more entertaining than men's/NBA are either women or brain dead by the way. It was painful watching the 4th quarter of that WV Iowa tournament game.
So there's a problem with her doing what half of men's basketball players already do? Next topic please.
Came to say this. We all love when top people get cocky. It adds to the spectacle and gives some athletes personality instead of the overly polished media presence most of them have. Honestly, I'd prefer it if more athletes, men and women, got boastful when deserved
