Robert Johnson would like to have a word...somehow he won 14 titles there-any criticism I had of him I take back; not only is Jerry not performing with both his college and pro distance programs , the sprint and field results have obviously been mediocre; that's what happens when you spread yourself too thin...
Relax Jerry is not getting fired lol. Nike and Oregon have signed him for a ton of money and this is only his second year. Give the guy some time. Clearly he’s turning Oregon in to distance school (which that’s what Nike wanted). It will take time but he will win.
Call me a cynic, but I think in 10 years they'll be a book, or Netflix docu series about Jerry's training methods. I can't help by think of "nike" + "controversy" in the same sentence.
I mean, has HOKA ever had a controversy like Nike with shady coaches, and pork burritos?
Why do people care so much who coaches at Oregon? Everyone thinks they have some righteous mission to make sure the coaching is perfect at Oregon. Doesn't matter.
I’d argue Jerry isn’t great for the sport. He seems to have a one-size-fits-all approach to coaching and training which involves absolutely no interviews, secretive and hardly ever lets athletes race.
People also love to poo poo on Salazar but Jerry is the only one with an athlete that tested positive. Salazar was a sucky human in other ways but NOP was much more fun to follow than BTC.
It almost feels like he aims to convert the best US talent to a shell of their former abilities. First it was Rheinhardt, then Cooper, now Birnbaum and Burns. If you had each of these athletes stay with their former coach, I bet that they would all have ran faster than what they are doing right now (and would acquire a lot more racing experience too). Joining an environment with more talented athletes should lead to development not regression. Fire Jerry Schumacher! Would love to hear the accounts of more people in the know + former ducks.
You should learn how to use the word "run." "Have ran" is never correct.

Because they siphon off some of the best talent year after year with mediocre results. Talent that could be developed by a handful of other coaches across the country.

UO has to fix the work environment real quick like!
Jerry Schumacher, Robert Johnson, etc, have never been allowed to coach at all. They keep getting pulled in by Mike Reilly TTUSA, AD, UO President, Nike Store, Nike Marketing, etc. to make up folklore and lies about Prefontaine to boost their careers. When XC 2022 failed and lost millions, fiber pointing, name calling, etc. beacme the norm. UO has to fix the work environment real quick like!

If UO went back to the 70s/80s model that would bring back the magic UO has always been about T&F 1989 Field of Dreams movie set UO on the wrong path Nike thought they could make a Westwood, a South Central out of Eugene Nike brought in droves of Hollywood types Hollywood ruined UO, Eugene, and made Prefontaine into a laughing stock
Jerry's a great 5000m coach. He injures a pretty high share of his athletes. His methods take 1-2 years to work. They work for a lot of pros over time. He has coached far more athletes to sub-13 than any other coach outside of Africa. He is also too rigid. He can't coach the 1500m. He can't coach the marathon. He is bad for the sport in keeping his athletes from racing. He has been a disaster at Oregon, the most famous distance school in the NCAA. With the talent he is getting there, you would expect results. So far, most of that talent has been wasted.

Not allowing your talented athletes to race is a coaching decision is it not?
Relax, he’s smart. He has a smart staff around him. He will get them dialed in and figured out.
It’s a young team they will get a lot better. This was a very soft opener.
Although it would be really funny if he kept stock piling talent and they all sucked
He doesn't speak out much in public but he did not come across as all that smart in the 'never heard of nandrolone' outburst following Shelby's bust. Meathead former D1 coach who throw his athletes into the meatgrinder and sometimes a few stick to the wall but most end up in the trash bin.

Schumacher was a 1500m specialist with a PR of 3:39. Why can’t he coach the 1500m and if he can coach the 5/10 guys, he can certainly coach for the marathon.
I don't care if Oregon starts churning out results or stays dogsh!t, as others have said Jerry is laughably bad for the sport. The reclusive coaching genius shtick needs to die and athletes should race, simple as.
