Angelia Napolean ran 2:03 in HS and has yet to break 2:06 at NC State. She certainly has the potential to run 2:00 in college, given her history. She seems focused on the steeple though.
I think it was reported Abby Loveys was back in the transfer portal (?) and won't be returning to NC State. They have another transfer that will be joining in fall of 2024, Fiona Smith.

I have seen rumors of several potential prominent transfers (in) on NC State board. One is reported in portal, the other is not, at least yet.
I am so old school that I am not understanding something. If Engelhardt has gone pro, how is she still eligible to run at NCSU? I understand NIL, but how can you be both a pro and college athlete at one time?
Please be nice with your responses, I don't quite understand the newer rules.

Okay, thank you. I was listening to the announcers during The Ten and it just sounded different. Like, I heard "she decided to go pro" and I wasn't sure if that was different than simply signing an NIL (i.e., Mary Cain).
When you refer to the NC State board are you referring to pack pride or the wolf packer message boards?
is one of the potential transfers Maatoug from Duke?
Also in addition to Fiona Smith who has won multiple individual titles at the D3 level Bethany Michalak who finished second overall at the NXN cross country championship will be enrolling at State this fall
Someone said it earlier that no one knows from year to year what a team will look like no that the portal era is upon us. If a coach leaves a program except many athletes to leave also. Look what happened when Franklin left New Mexico last summer. A women's program that was expected to be top three suddenly became nothing as six of the top seven left (3 to NAU, 1 to Colorado, and 2 to Florida) given they didn't want to be part of a different coach. We will see that this year also and NC State might pick up some surprises. Until practice begins in the fall and rosters are released we will not know who has what. I think NC State will still be very, very good this fall.
If there are no significant injuries going into the national championship this fall State has the potential to field a really strong lineup of Stephens, Hartman, Gapes, Smith and Michalak. That lineup has the potential to be a podium contender this fall. Hopefully state can add at least one low stick between now and the fall!
is one of the potential transfers Maatoug from Duke?
I would be very surprised if that happened. Maatoug doesn't have much eligibility remaining. Stride Report kept calling her a freshman last year. That was blatantly wrong. She spent two years in college in the Netherlands before transferring to Duke. She told a Dutch interviewer that she planned to stay 2 years at Duke.
A few weeks ago the Duke track and field account included a picture of Maatoug among the seniors who were in their final home meet. Maatoug didn't run in that meet. She has only run once during outdoors.
Emily Cole decided to use her 14th season of eligibility next fall in cross country. When she made that announcement on Instagram a few weeks ago, Maatoug replied, "Can't wait."
Cole replied to that with, "@aminamaat.oug if only they knew the convo we had 30 mins before I posted this"
That conversation could have been many things. But bottom line it led me to believe Maatoug has one more season of cross country eligibility and has decided to use it at Duke.
Maybe there are whispers otherwise. I'm surprised her name has surfaced twice in this thread. I could only see her transferring away for one semester if really disillusioned about the coaching change at Duke.
The stride report has reported that Maatoug has entered her name into the transfer portal. This was reported last week and I have not seen any sources that have contradicted this news. If she is healthy and no longer competing for Duke that would seem to indicate that she has decided to finish her collegiate eligibility at another school. Personally I’m hoping she does enroll at State in the fall.

That Instagram post and comment from Maatoug was on April 1st (4 weeks ago). The Stride Report reported on April 22nd that Maatoug was in the portal. I guess something may have changed in the ~3 weeks between?
Will gionna quarzo use her 5th year of eligibility? To be a top 5 team, they will need her to duplicate last years xc performance.
No disrespect to her as she is a fine runner, but she was their 7th or 8th best runner in XC for most of the year, and 7th at NCAAs finishing in 102nd place. If Chmiel was not injured, Quarzo probably would not have even run at nationals.

On a top 5 team quarzo is an excellent runner, she has run 16:16 this outdoor season and 33:02 10k. The 33:02 will qualify her for regionals so you can’t say she’s not solid. However, Those times aren’t making any championship team’s top 5, but this IS a REBUILD year.

That remains to be seen whether it's a "rebuild" year (by their standards) or not. I doubt Henes is content to just "mail it in" this coming season and finish, say, somewhere between 5th-10th at nationals. They are going to try to win it all again...and with the portal there's a LOT that can change between now and this coming season to radically change expectations for their team. Disregarding potential portal additions, I think with the current roster they will be a strong podium contender.

Kenzie Doyle of U Mass Lowell (15:27) is now reported to be in the portal and she was the one rumored on the NC St board (who was not yet in the portal)
I posted in this thread yesterday without realizing Maatoug was in the portal. Given that situation, none of what I wrote applies, other than if she leaves Duke it might be due to disillusionment with the sudden coaching change. Dutch juniors compete for local clubs year after year under the same coaches. They are accustomed to loyalty and familiarity and not changes on a whim.
Also perhaps there are NIL considerations. I don't know enough about that, or how good you have to be in track and field to get a slice.
I won't be surprised if it's North Carolina State. Duke graduation ceremony is May 12 so I wouldn't expect an announcement before then.
