I know Nico is still in college and know that he demolished the old record...but will the NCAA count it? Doesn't the NCAA require a certain number of events for the meet to count? This may have been covered elsewhere...if so I apologize.

Yes.
I believe it will count for the NCAA outdoor record since the outdoor season has started. It would be the absolute record too regardless.
The time likely won't count to qualify him for NCAA championships though because the meet itself doesn't have enough events for NCAA rules.
it counts
In the words of the Hall of Famer, Marv Albert, "YESSSS! And it counts!"
Might not be right, but
I think that only refers to it counting for qualifying for Outdoor Nationals. IE Young would (presumably) have to run another 10000m at a normal track event with a bunch of other collegiate track and field events being run if he wants to run at Outdoor Nationals.
As a record, it definitely counts since the only requisite is him running the time in a valid race, not at a valid NCAA event.
The NCAA only keeps meet records. TFN & the coaches association keep CRs.
NCAA has not approved. pace lights yet. So asterisk.

For the record, yes. But not for NCAAs. Notice how the meet and time are not on tffrs?
Same thing happened to Tuohy last year when she ran a 15:03 5k at Sound Running. She still had to run another 5k for a qualifying mark for NCAAs.

Right on, brother. Finally, someone who knows how it works.

I assume he will, but if Nico doesn't run in any Outdoor events in an NAU uniform does it still count? I believe he was wearing their uniform for the Ten, but I haven't seen the race.

It would be silly for him to run the 10,000 at NCAA. Even if this time counted, which it probably does not. He would still have to run regionals and then NCAA. That means two 5000/10000 doubles. Then the trials 5000/10000 double. What if he qualifies for the 5000 or 10000 (or both)? Then another 5000/10000 double at the Olympics. It seems quite excessive. Simply running the 5000m at NCAA is quite enough. No point in even trying the 1500/5000 double.
