Oh please. Andrews is completely inconsistent and hasn’t shown any indication that she could pace a sub 30. She wouldn’t be able to hold that pace for more than a mile as a pacer. Obviously wasn’t chosen for a reason.

Weren't they aiming to pace about a 29:37? The American ladies who have run that pace for a 5,000 is quite small. Here are the women who have run that pace for 5,000:
Monson - she can't pace
Shelby H - she can't pace
Schweitzer - she would be running it, not pacing
Cranny - see above
Rowbury - retired
Huddle - retired
Regina Jacobs - drug cheat , retired
Flanagan - retired
Andrews
Henes - mabybe
There is really only 3 American ladies who can run a half-decent time currently ... Monson, Schweitzer and Cranny. No one else.
hadn't thought of obiri for pacing. she must be out of shape right now, or just not interested in the team aspect. what the were aiming for would be an easy task for a very fit obiri.
Edit: nevermind. looking at her last couple years, she hasn't laid down a really fast time in quite awhile. would have thought 14:50 through 5k was more than reasonable for her, but she hasn't laid down a really fast time since a 1:04 half in early 22.
Yes!! She would've been perfect to pace this.
she did the Beer Mile.
Do they ever test pacers? That would be very embarrassing to fail a drug test while pacing.
