Coming out of highschool expectations for Nico Young were sky high. He's since won two NCAA titles and broken both 13minutes and 27minutes. Has he met your career expectations for him coming out of highschool? Or does he still need to accomplish more?
A decade ago, that might have been a normal expectation for someone like him at the peak of his career. These days, things are different. We need top high school kids to develop into world class competitors, and he is on track to be in that category just like Fisher.
Ultimately, everyone develops differently and talent manifests itself at different times. Nico Young, like many other top stars, will not be satisfied until he's a Gold Medalist and perhaps more.
He came with a huge expectations out of HS and then kind of fizzled for awhile. Now he has at least lived up to it. But I don't think he has exceeded it yet. If he can get to Fisher level maybe.
Pretty much any high school distance kid who wins a NCAA title has exceeded expectations. Maybe a man exception for Webb/Kessler. Everyone else needs substantial improvement to be a contender.
I stopped rooting for him a couple of years ago, but his progress has been pretty impressive. It took Solinsky a bit longer to reach these levels with the old shoes. Certainly in the top 10 Americans of the last 15 years even with benefitting from the shoes.
That dog needs to look at hiring the GOAT coach, Mr Salazar as coach assuming Alberto is eligible or allowed to be a coach.
Funny how he gets banned with zero evidence, yet agents/coaches are rampantly profiting off doping/fraud such as Jama Aden, the Rosa's, Bererdelli and Canova.
Translation: A talented kid was made into a 5000m/10000m man.
I know you're trolling, but...Nico was really the classic xc/distance guy headed to 5k/10k plus, and never really showed much speed potential.
This year he has unlocked 1:49/3:55 speed, which helped him to at last win those 2 NCAA titles. So I think they have actually done the opposite by finding speed in his training that was unexpected.
Contrary to some other posters, I even think he's in the mix in a kickers 10k at Usatf. Clearly Nico would not let it come down to last 100, but would close from a mile out or so. Not guaranteed to win, but he's now fast enough to still be in the hunt in that kind of race.

It never ceases to amaze me how and when people who have NEVER run at a level even close to what an athlete like what Nico (and others) has - let alonne what he might end up doing - finds a way to criticize them.
