Sophomore in HS here. Have been doing some of my best training ever over the past weeks. Some recent workouts: (over the past couple weeks, not in the same week of course)
4x1mile @ 5 flat, 5 min rest, 400@58
-- 4 mile hilly tempo@ 5:17 avg.
-- 16x400@69s avg. w/200 jog rest (in 60 - 90s)
-- 4 mile tempo @5:13 average (on the track), 6 min rest, 400@60 (the tempo didn't even feel very hard).
-- 12 mile long run @ 6:03 avg. w/ 3x1 mile up-tempo spaced out @ 5:23, 5:23, 5:25
Based off of this training I was hoping to hit around 9:30 in the 3200m. Recently I got into a race, went out in 4:52 and completely died the second mile (10:10 final). What do you guys think is up? Is my training not good enough for that type of time? Is it too much? I took 2 days easy before the race. However, my legs and body just tightened up and felt terrible.
Any advice on what to do from here would be awesome. Thank you
