If anyone has dove into cycling, you'll find they're obsessed with aero. Something as simple as socks are regulated by their governing body because it's been determined they have a tangible aero advantage compared to bare skin. And this is all tested in wind tunnels of course, and it's given real watt saving numbers.
Skin suits for example are another drastic change in technology in cycling. To the point where anyone that takes the sport semi seriously, their version of hobby-joggers, pays decent money to ride in one.
It seems to me running as a sport has a long way to go to make similar progress. We know our speeds are slower, so the impact is less. But we also know that there's massive gains to be made here. Drafting in running is coached into the sport and offers huge advantages. So we all acknowledge its importance. So why haven't we adopted this same mentality of using aero technology to our benefit?
