I'm certain this will happen. Ethiopia nearly always holds a 10k "trials" in Europe. I used quotation marks as I think it's only ever advisory, not first 3 across the line get picked, so selectors can still use some discretion.

Write after me.................. Gebrselassie
You have heard of Paul Chelimo but not of Jakob and Nuguse?
Where have you been hibernating?
Here is a link to the X country race in December 2023

I mean, it's not often you have a field with one truly great runner at that distance, then a bunch of others who rarely, if ever run it. But it's all relative, nothing is actually that "crazy" in distance running.
Btw: this isn't Yee's debut. He's run 13:29 on the track and 13:26 on the roads
Thats odd, he doesn't have a world athletics profile under that name
he’s certainly no slouch for a triathlete. Although it has been some time since his faster results.
High Hopes writes so neatly about endurance he (a wild guess it's a fella) should be in one of those immensely paid UK athletics journalist roles. One wonders who it is.

Haha! I'd love to get paid to write about UK distance running but hardly anyone does these days. Besides, I have a job I really like and which is a lot more stable than journalism. So, my only writing about running is on these boards.
Tbh, I'd do it for free in my spare time so if the Brojo's wants a UK correspondent they're free to hit me up. I go to most medium and big events in the south of the country, including the London DL, Night of the 10k PBs, etc.

Is this a road race? I assume yes since it's a 5k and not 5,000m. Heavy favorite in Hagos Gebhriwet.
It's on a tarmac loop (I assume its typically used for cycling). Sometimes you can go there to run on it

The Podium 5k usually attracts good domestic elites but the entry list this weekend is wild.
Jake Wightman - 1500m world champ
Ben Pattison - 800m world bronze medallist
Axel Veng Christensen - Euro u20 XC champion
Callum Hawkins - twice 4th place at world champs marathon
Alex Yee - olympic medallist in the triathlon
Nick Griggs - 3000m u20 European champ
Hagos Gebhriwet - world and only.pic medallist with a 12:42 PB
I don't know if it will be a good race, but getting all those specialists of different distances together to compete is at least interesting
Somehow, Cooper Teare feels like a fitting addition to this list.

Hagos is gonna go out and jog a 13:30 for the win while everyone else is going balls to the walls
What a great race.
Interested to see how Yee shapes up. I still remember him turning up at the occasional Surrey XC race.
Absolute monster!
Just turned on stream. B heat now, so maybe A in about 10’
EDIT: Women at 2:30ET, Men at 3 ET

Link please?
Looks quite rainy/windy. I suspect Gebrhiwet is questioning why he is here if he is there.
Rosa athlete leads exactly 3 steps of the race but it’s the final 3 steps. They have not ID’ed who, but the athlete overhauled Nyaga. Pretty cruel, even Woody would’ve taken the lead a tad earlier.
Asmarech Anley the winner. 14:41/30:31 last year on the roads.
EDIT: Daniel Kimaiyo (U20 bronze in ‘22) first race since that season.
Yee DNS, Gebrhiwet now repping Asics.
Gebrhiwet wins in 13:20, Langat a few seconds back. A third African before Brits around 13:40?
Jake Wightman goes home DEVASTATED

Definitely still not a 5k guy. Did he break 14?
BREAKING: Leonard Korir not going to Paris! 11 Universality athletes get in ahead of him!
Hicham El Guerrouj is back baby! Runs Community Mile in Oxford
What is the most stupid running advice you've ever heard?🤣(It can be funny)
What is the threshold that separates a "hobbyjogger" from a "sub-elite" runner?
Are Asics, Saucony, and New Balance envious of Brooks, Hoka ,and On?
