We're sterilizing our children because getting a sex change went from a low to high status endeavor, by and large. The leftist impulse to seek out victims to defend and subvert civil society has brought us to this point.
These people still have as high of rates of depression and self-deletion as they did before transitioning. Defying nature is clearly not the answer.
I think once people stop and think about the gruesome, Mengelian procedures inflicted on these people, and all of the horrible side effects, the support to expand access to these procedures will wain.

But telling adults that they can't choose this path, no matter how much I think it is a bad idea . . . is a really bad idea. Adults can make their own decisions. And trying to take that right away from them by declaring them mentally ill doesn't cut it.

The posters mentioning suicide rates never seem interested in the role of the trans person’s family in that. Rejection and alienation from parents and loved ones is the common cause of those suicides.
The sex change industry is estimated at $2.1 billion dollars and climbing. That's the motivation-money. Doctors and hospitals are now being sued by adults who were transitioned as children. When they start winning these suits and the financial penalty makes these mutilating surgeries on children financially risky, it will slow down, if not stop.

yes okay, happy to revise that part. but I'd like to see a complete ban on under 18s being able to have this kind of surgery. and then a 3-year process where you have to meet various doctors and psychologists and whatnot, so you really understand what you are letting yourself in for, so the earliest you would be able to have your genitals chopped off would be 21.

It's funny how you mention individual freedoms meanwhile doctors don't have the freedom to deny giving "gender-affirming care" without being sued.
I would be shocked if many trans youth don’t deeply regret the decisions so blindly approved by today’s therapeutic community. This just seems so insanely poorly considered and poorly understood to irrevocably alter the human body after, what?, 12 months of adolescent gender questioning? Like, wtf?
