I watched you run in high school--an incredible talent--obviously! I've followed your brothers videos--entertaining to say the least but, this is about you. I was so happy to see you win your first national championship--CONGRATS!!!!!!!!. It only gets harder, but I've seen nothing that leads me to believe that your not up for the challenge. You have been nothing but an example of PURE CLASS!! People want to chastise you about things other than running---FVCK them!!!!!! Regardless of negativity on this this board---not one of your critics could come close to accomplishing the things you've done! Keep doing you Nico! Your going to go far!!!! Fan always
Wake me up when Kerr does literally anything in the 5k. He might be within 10 seconds of Nico Young in an all out race.
Kerr is at least a sub 13 runner. And normally also a sub 12:50 with a 2miles which equals to around 7:25 in the 3000m.
See what Gebrselassie and Bekele ran in the 3000m AND the 5000m. Low 7:25 and 12:39; high 7:25 and 12:37.
I think Nico is developing to be a great runner with potential to go sub 13 and to qualify for US 5000m team this year BUT he still has a significant gap to close to the best in the world.
You do realize that 2 miles is only 1781m short of 5000m
This logic is the bs that had morans thinking Jeremey Warnier should be an all time 800m runner lol
You can´t compare the jump from 400m to 800m (some can do; it some can´t) with the (little) jump from the 2 miles to the 5000m.
Some 400m runners are natural sprinters with low aerobic capacity which makes the shift to the 800m very "expensive".
On the other hand: To run a 8 min 2 miles you must have a very high aerobic capacity and that capacity will help you to very good 5000m too. Just ask Gebrselassie and Bekele (see my post above).

Can't compare Gebrselassie and Bekele with Kerr. Kerr is a lot better than them in 800m/1500m, while Gebreselassie and Bekele will sweep him in 5000m/10000m. Even though they all have the same 3000m.

I didn´t claim that Kerr would have been able to beat Gebrselassie and Bekele in a 5000m. I wrote that NORMALLY a 8 min 2 miler (7:25 3000m) should be able to run sub 12:50.
But let´s forget about Kerr who possibly never will race the 5000m in international champs.
To set Nico´s performance in perspective:
Last year a runner ran the last 2000m in 4:56.69 and the last 1600m in 3:54.14 in a 13:11 5000m race. The runner was at the time a year and some months older than Nico is now.
So my conclusion stands: Nico still have some way to go to challenge the current top dogs.
But he is developing well both regarding endurance and speed.

Doubtful Gebrselassie is 51 years old and Bekele is 41 years old. I think Kerr would beat both. I do think Bekele still beats Kerr in a Half and Full though.
