It seems like a waste of energy for Stanford to have Whittaker and Willis run the DMR if their lead off will put them that far out of contention to win or podium. Especially Whittaker as she has a shot at the individual title.

Based on the Flash Results Athletes list, appears that 52.+/400 Owens or 53.+/400 Elliot is replacing 2:06/800 Edwards on the 800 leg.
Neither Owens, Elliot nor Edwards have qualified for NCAAs in individual events -- while Edwards is not even on the list of entered athletes.
So, guessing: Thorner-Elliot-Owens-Asekol.
Which means FL is running a sprinter who has never run an 800 before, at least in college.
I'd agree but looking at the list of athletes entered not one of them for any team is listed for either relay, so my guess is there are more who did not declare for an event that are actually entered for relay purposes.

Regarding your first point, pretty much agree. Maybe Dudek or Kennedy have shown something in practice that suggests they could run a 3:20 or so and be mid-pack by handoff -- but that's a big hope. If things go south quickly, the other three legs likely will have the option to shut it down.
Regarding sentence # two . . . whoa! Don't dismiss the defending champ. Roisin has been relatively quiet this season by design. However, her 56-64 = 2:00.92 split at the BU Terrier DMR Challenge a few weeks ago is one of the fastest, if not the fastest, DMR 800 leg ever run by a collegian.
Both Willis & Rose are front runners. Rose is the big favorite, coming in as the second fastest collegian ever behind Mu. However, if it plays out like last year, where Rose took the lead with W&W on her tail until the final turn when both swept by for gold-silver, well, Game On!
Is there Really no way to watch this meet without subscribing to yet another platform (ESPN+)? It's So hard to be a fan of this sport.

Doesn't the 1200 almost always go out very tactical though?
True, as often some 'reserves' run the 1200 legs with stars in individual events.
That said times are now fast, the track is fast, plenty of talent in dmr this year anyway, and teams have learned if you play it too safe - the race is just handed to fastest closer.
If Barnett is the Oregon 1200, she will push the pace. Assuming Dudek is fit, she'll run smart and keep gap close. Whitaker has that 52 400 speed, so Stanford right in the hunt.
Of note in 800, the 3 amigos, Whitaker, Willis and Gorriaran are in the same heat of 800. 3 + 2 small q advance.
I'll take Stanford to win with Whitaker doing just enough with a 4:28.
Longshot - anyone have an extra pair of tickets for the event?
BYU's 1200 leg Sargent will be fresh and she split 3:16.71 at the BU DMR Challenge. Their 400 then gave them the lead at 4:09.80 at 1600.
Their question mark is the 800 leg who will be doubling and who was off form at B12. Their 1600 leg Chamberlain who split 4:29 high at BU has scratched the mile so she will be fresh too. Seed time is 10:44.67 vs ND's 10:44.62.

Ben seems to be leaning Robinson over Young in the 5k. I don't see it this season.
Plus, Robinson will be competing in the Australian track and field championships in April to qualify for the Olympics. Will he even taper much for NCAAs? Olympics are the goal.
In Young's current form, the 5 def appears to be his race to lose. The main prob I have with Ben's take is reducung the contest to two heavy favourites. Sub-13:10 is possible and the race was a relatively fast one last year (MR is 13:19; Dylan Jacobs clocked 13:15 alt conv in NM), but if Nico doesn't out-fitness everyone and Robinson is within striking distance at the bell, I expect Samuel, Maru or Wolfe--maybe all three--will be there as well
Probably no surprise that I agree with Ben's call on the W 3000. Garrett seems reluctant to acknowledge that, tired legs aside, Valby isn't the only entrant who could run faster than her seed time and challenge ftw. If Valby somehow finds the energy to drop a PB on Sat, Markezich's history in championship races suggests she will do the same.
Otherwise...Bunnage will be missed, but after what happened to Gregory last year, maybe we should be relieved she didn’t push through the injury. The Olemomoi/Roe battle in the 5 should be fun to watch, I’ll keep an eye on Maatoug in the 3 and hope a couple of Big XII milers roll into Boston with extra sharpness and venom.
I will take ND running down BYU, to me the question is if they can run down OR.
sigh, yep. That's what I get for waiting until the qualifiers were announced to buy tickets. They were already sold out by then.

Yeah I think Maru is underrated. He is my sleeper pick.
Also - Roe is running very well and I think she might surprise everyone in the 5k. For someone who has historically relied on her kick, she front ran wire to wire some impressive 5k times this season - 15:12 PR and 15:2x (converted). If Valby goes out on 15 flat pace I can see her, Lemnegole and Olemomoi going with.

Willis is a major talent, she just doesn't seem quite as on fire this season. I missed that DMR split, though. Carly Thomas may also factor or Chepnegitch. 800m is loaded this year.
The questions were boring so the athletes start interviewing each other.
The post is titled NCAA DI Indoor T&F Championships, yet 95% of the comments are about one event, the DMR. There are 17 events contested per gender at the championships incase you nerds forgot.

Feel free to post about any events you like. I started the thread more for information about declarations, and entries. No doubt results will follow. There is a separate prediction thread I think.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
