They might actually cancel the race if the snow forces them to close the roads.
Assuming the race proceeds, you’d be a fool to spike up your shoes. The snow coverage will be minimal, and you’ll handicap yourself when you descend to the snow-free areas.
Your best bet is to choose a pair of shoes with rubber outsoles that perform decently in low traction. My choice would be Adidas Takumi Sen. But I’m guessing you want super shoes.

Not so. Get 3/8” #8 pointed hex head sheet metal screws. 4 per shoe. Very little weight, very little cost, a big difference on ice, and minimal difference on dry pavement besides the chatter noise.
Inagural Revel Mt Diablo. I needed a downhill race to pad my Instagram bio
I just looked this up. Half marathon that starts at 3,849 feet and ends at 185 feet. Drops 3,664 feet in 13.1 miles ... that is 279.5 feet per mile. Has there ever been a more downhill race? That even seems ridiculous by Revel standards.

It's 5% average decline but the last 5k I believe is sorta flat. Some of the downhill sections are really aggressive. I think around 8%. I did some runs on 5% (bridges/hills) and it was pretty obnoxious. Anyway, sorta glad it was cancelled because I don't really think it's possible to run that fast on pavement. My legs would have been torn up. Hard packed dirt would have been better probably.
