I was surprised at these recent quotes from Bol's coach Meuwly. Fans have called for Bol to attempt the 800. She has always pushed against it. But now Meuwly suggests it might happen:
“I think she’s also able to perform over 800m,” he says. “She showed in Boston that she has this efficiency, and she’s pretty good in all the endurance sessions because of it. I can imagine [the 800m] might also be an option.”
Not only did the 400m hurdler re-learn her main event to become a world champion, she also managed to bounce back from major disappointment in what was a golden summer
More that she’s up there with a chance of gold in 400m hurdles. But would she be in the 800m with Mu, Hodgkinson and Moraa? We have no idea of her form over 800m but I don’t think she’d be in with a medal chance. Maybe I’m wrong. I’d love to see her give it a shot but there’s a reason why she isn’t…

I think the 800m could be a longer term plan, but only if she really wants it.
If she were to win the 400mh in Paris, and another World title in the 400mh, it could be she switches to the 800m for LA2028, but for now I envisage she would consider a switch after LA, not before.
Her 400m in Metz was superb. The perfect 23.9 opening 200m for her, and then a second lap of around 25.7. In the 200m her second half was also impressive, especially the final straight, she was shifting.
Lieke Klaver stupidly opened in 24.2 which is too slow for her and meant she had to increase her pace too much too early. Hopefully she learns from that. She opened in 23.9 in her Ostrava run for comparison. I believe Klaver should aim for 23.7 - 23.9 opener in her next race in Poland to see how she does. Certainly no slower than 23.9
Bol also looks like she could open quicker that 23.9 if she needs to. Come Glasgow she might have to.
At the Dutch Nationals Klaver will probably 'allow' Bol to open in 23.9 and follow her. Personally, I would rather see Klaver aim for the lead at the bell, even if it means 23.7 & elbowing her friend. She wont lose silver to anyone else, so may as well go hard and force Bol to work for her win. Alas, she will probably allow Bol another easy WR attempt. If she does, that at Glasgow Klver should go out hard. Medals are at stake afterall.
Problem with Klaver is she's usually content to sit and use somebody as a pace setter for both indoors and outdoors. Last year i felt she made some progress in her outdoor 400s so hopefully she can put it together this year.
Why do you expect Klaver to open faster? She is slower than Bol in 200 and has less endurance too, so it doesn't make any sense for her to open faster than Bol

So she has no chance to beat Bol if both slower 200m and poorer endurance. Just run her own race, whatever that is.

Klaver is not slower than Bol at 200. They have faced each other in practice sessions for years at 200, in recent years with Kielbasinka alongside. Klaver always wins those sprint 200s and takes pride in it.
Klaver is 5-0 head to head against Bol at 200, always at Dutch outdoor championships.
Granted, Bol has improved her strength and speed recently and it transfers best to indoors. She is the very rare 400 meter runner who is faster indoors than outdoors. But if they go full out alongside each other I'm confident Klaver would still prevail narrowly.
When it comes to head to head against Klaver indoors, the key aspect is what Klaver decides to do. In prior years Klaver always pressed the pace and reached 200 ahead of Bol. That caused Klaver to tighten up and fade. Last year Klaver figured out that she'll run faster times if she relaxes on the first lap and allows Bol to lead. I expect it will play out that way again this year.
Note the recent examples of the past few days. Klaver was pressured on lap one in Metz on Saturday and tightened up noticeably. She finished well above 51. Today in Torun Klaver was able to relax on the first lap. She ran much better and finished with one of her best times at 50.57
