Legalizit,
I have noticed that meditation has helped me in many races, but it all got started as a junior in high school. Early in the season and I had a PR at the time of 10:12 in the 3200. The school record was 10:08, so I was gearing up to take it down sometime that season and we were having a dual meet with a team where their best guy had recently run 10:07. I did some serious meditation prior to that race, but the focus was on beating him and not necessarily the school record on that day. He took it out way too fast for me as he went through the 1600 in 4:49. Anyway, as I started hurting on the 5th lap, I focused on his back way up there and concentrated on reeling him in a bit with each step. I was still 8 seconds behind at the bell lap but chased him down with a 65 second last lap for the win in 10:03.1 - my first school record which I would later get down to 9:48.0. I'm convinced that my pre-race mental preparation and my focus during it led me to victory that day. I later did a similar thing as I aimed for and ran a half marathon in 1:12. I focused on meeting certain splits along the way and once I reached one, I then started over as if fresh and went for the next one. I have noticed that during races if I lose the focus, the pace slows.
