Mine was located directly behind the Achilles near the insertion so they had to split the achilles in half in order to go in and remove the bone spur. If I had to estimate, the incision that they made was probably about 6-7 inches from below the insertion on my heel to slightly above it and I think they placed some internal stitches on the achilles when they were closing me up. I have no clue how long it'll take for those to dissolve but I would assume that at this point since the outside incision is all healed up, it's about making sure that the achilles is in fine condition and has healed properly before starting more strenuous activity.
I think from the PT plan that the surgeon gave me, I should be able to do stationary bike and Elliptical in March about ~10-12 weeks post surgery and running around 16 weeks post surgery. It's a conservative approach to recovery and I could probably move that timeline up by a few weeks if I really wanted to but I've suffered enough with this injury already and I don't want to mess around with the recovery process.
I could probably do the arm bike at the gym but tbh I don't really want to look like a granny on that thing hahaha so I've just been lifting weights and doing core. As a result of the DVT in my calf, I had to take an extra 2 weeks off from working out before getting cleared by the hematologist bringing it to a total of about a month off working out so I think at this point, any sort of physical activity is better than nothing.
