Was she wearing On? Are pics of this race around somewhere?
She was 10 seconds in back of leader at 1k! She was 14 seconds behind the leader at 3k! Just ran the smartest race problem helped her it was muddy!
Between Ritz and Wiley, it's looking like Team USA distance squad is gonna be Team Addy at some point
Do you think she's get an ON deal (NIL) in high school?
Who cares?
Is she related the Dathan?
Well, SOME people made a thread about the Young twins at Stanford getting an ON NIL their freshman year. I personally didn't care...
Yes, well. The bigger question is what happened to Leachman? Leads through 4k and is the one setting the pace for a respectable time in those course conditions. Someone gets close and gives up the ghost and quits out on the course and loses 43 seconds. That's a quit in my book. I feel like I see this in elite HS girls races more than boys. You do see it in boys, but I feel like girls have this grand plan and the second it goes awry, they get out the towel. Anyone else see this. It happened at our state meet this year. Leading girl runner just stepped off the course when she felt the heat after 3k? Thoughts?
CHSAA (Colorado High School Activities Association) has made it clear that high schoolers can not have NIL deals in Colorado and still compete.
Leachman went out too fast and was legitimately dying. She is not a quitter, just had a poor race plan today. Tactics matter in these muddy, slow, and wet conditions.
Ritz beats Hall again
I could see she was tiring quickly approaching 3k and no wonder with her time thru about 2500.
I noticed a bunch of people posting about this, from various states - I don't know why it's going on so much in the girls' races. Experience, experience, experience. I think these girls need more racing experience.
I don't think this used to happen *as much* in the girls' races. But now they go out so fast, and there's so much competition. I think someone wrote about a girl who dropped out of the state meet (last year) when her teammate passed her. That's not going to happen in the college level at least.
Leachman races plenty, but not in these conditions, which threw her and Englehardt, more of a rhythm runner, a big curve ball.
Yes! She goes to Niwott, which is right by Boulder/where OAC trains. I think Elise Cranny went there too a long time ago.
She's only a sophomore, and she was 27 seconds up on 3rd place. I don't wanna make any crazy predictions, but also, what would Dathan have run if he'd been training at altitude all of HS? Plus, what would Dathan have run if he'd been at one of the top programs in the nation, and have a dad that was coaching the best group in the country?
We'll see a now smarter Leachman and Forsythe again next week at FL. Shea will join, but only 9:30ish for 3 k today at BU vs 9:08 last year.
Your book is stupid. It wasn't a quit at all.
Leachman ran the first 2k at 16:01 pace on a cold, muddy day. Of course she was going to run out of gas at the end of the race. It had nothing at all to do with quitting. There is no high school girl in history that can keep that pace up on a course like that.
Yes, Dathan is her dad
