I stood by Conner Mantz and his wife today waiting for an elevator at the DoubleTree by Hilton Orlando Downtown. We were standing side by side for 2ish minutes. Very slow elevators. Thought about saying something to him, but I didn’t want to be that guy and he was also mid conversation with his wife.
I’m not the OP but I don’t understand why more people don’t do this. No one in this race needs to prove they can finish a marathon and it was fun to be in the front for a while. At breakfast all the 2:16/2:17 guys I talked to where like „yeah I’ll just start at 5:15 per mile.“ why? I had fun for 5k and even got an NBC mention
Because there’s no way that wouldn’t piss off the people actually in the hunt. Enough people screw around and get in their way, and there will be complaints. what if this gaggle of non-competitors causes someone who has a shot to fall? That’s essentially why they slashed the women’s OTQ time. Sounds like an excellent way to ruin the tradition of the trials we have and push it towards a selection committee for a select few. Some of these nerds want that, but it would be bad for the sport

Meh, who cares about possibly offending one of the leaders. If they get pissed off by something like that, wait til the Olympics when they face much faster competition who will do all kinds of things and screw with the pace.
I think T Roy Brown's post makes a ton of sense. If you're a 2:16/2:17 guy, you might as well make it a fun and memorable experience.
