Isn't the last 100 when you are supposed to be drifting to the RIGHT to impede any challengers and hope not to be called for it? (Sometimes the officials don't need to step in and you just take yourself out of the race.)
Why were people here praising Hockers 7th but Hoppel is devastated?
both ran horrible races that didn’t give them a chance to medal
Because 3:30 is an amazing time that would require Hoppel to run a 1:43. Hocker has a chance at medaling on the right day. I guess Hoppel does too because anybody in an 800m final can medal.

As times don't matter in championship races, I would say that Hoppel had a better race than Hocker. Hoppel tried to make a move on the back straight, he was involved and others in the race had to think about what he was doing. Yes, he faded hard, but he was trying to be involved in the race. By contrast, Hocker went out towards the back and never got higher than 7th in the field. He didn't make any moves, nobody had to be concerned about what he was doing. If you took him out of that race, nobody would notice - and this isn't just digging on Hocker, others in that race did the same, like Gourley, Cheruiyot, and Nader. Almost everyone else tried to do something to be a factor even if they faded e.g. Laros who made a hard move to go 3rd/4th at the bell but finished 11th

What have we seen from him of recent? He is done at the international level. I don’t know how much an 800 runner can do to change stimulus by changing coach but he looks stale. He struggled through the rounds and when it gets to the last 150-200m, he does not have it.

Ran a good Semi. 1:44.02. One of his fastest times ever
Pitiful. He was supposed to lead a strong showing by Americans. Couldn't have done worse.
My biggest issue is that he's so arrogant and has a bad attitude. Didn't talk to Lewis, didn't seem like he was happy to be there at all. Maybe some problems with coaching?
If he doesn't want to show joy in representing the country, he should leave.
So arrogant, why didn't he do an interview with Lewis? He just walked right by him! Where's the love of his country? If he doesn't like it, he should leave.
His attitude is all wrong. He's an arrogant loser.
Terrible execution, let himself get boxed immediately rather than having any decisive strategy
I disagree. He couldn't do anything because he clearly didn't have the legs. He got dropped. 600-700 and 700-800 splits were both the worst in the field. So, I'd say bad day, overcooked body/training, past peak or something along those lines.
From workout sessions they filmed, it appeared to me that Hoppel is very undertrained. He didn't have anyone to push him and he was running relatively slow times for a runner of his magnitude. It seemed to me that there was plenty of room there for increased training stimulus.
So, both Murphy and Hoppel skipped post-race interviews? I checked replays and didn't see Lewis talkng to them. Any LRC post-race interviews?
Hoppel definitely skipped it. What a bad attitude. How arrogant. What changed? Coaching? Pressure to dope? He doesn't look happy to be there at all. He'd rather be on the beach, sunning himself with his big-time Hollywood lifestyle.
If he doesn't want to show pride in representing America, he can leave.
