So here's the deal: Last week was my birthday. My old aunt wrote me a check, put it in the mail, and died. So now I have this check from a dead woman. Do I still cash it? $25 are on the line here, so I need some input.

Sure you can, dying doesn't absolve your debts.
If you were the electric co, you'd deposit it. Phone co, the same. Unless you feel guilty about it, go ahead. It'll be deducted from her checking acct and after the acct settles, the executor will close it.
Her bank account is not dead, though it may have been frozen/put on hold. The real question is whether it would be appropriate, or at least appear appropriate, to draw money from a dead relative's bank account.
I think you should ask a relative who knew the aunt (mom, grandmom) what the best course of action is.

I disagree. Just cash the check. There is nothing even remotely inappropriate about doing so.
Your aunt wanted you to have the $25. That's why she wrote you the check. I'm trying to imagine a scenario in which cashing this gift could be inappropriate. Maybe, while your aunt was on her deathbed, someone asked her if she had any regrets in life...and she wheezed: "I never should have sent that punk nephew $25." Even in that highly unlikely scenario, that money is legally yours.
Nice try. So someone in your family died and now you have access to the checks and want to know when someone dies if you can cash that persons checks because your actually thinking of forging some of them and taking the money but you don't want to risk it if they can't be cashed right?
Some of the strangest questions I have ever heard pop up on this board.
Your aunts estate is in probate. You cannot cash the check. Get in line with all the other debtors.
Yes, of course you should cash it. "It's what she would have wanted".
There is nothing morally wrong with cashing it, it's what you do with the money after that might disgrace your aunt. Just don't buy any asian hookers, ok?

Yeah, but none that you would really want to have sex with.
ditto - very funny
Todd,
Please do cash my check I wanted you have it. If I knew what was going to happen I would have made it for $50.00.
And please tell your mother not to dress me the blue chiffon dress.
love auntie
PS. tell your Aunt Mildred I'll be seeing her soon
I would like to know how to tur someone in for illegally cashing a pension check of a deadpans check? This person has 4 checks in the amounts of $4,000. Im a friend of the deceased and do not approve of this man ripping off a deadpans money. It DISGUST me.
According to the Democrats, dead people are eligible to vote. So yes, you should also be able to cash checks from them.
Pics?

Congratulations. You put forth an illiterate response to an 11 year old thread.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
