impressive time but what reason is there to run that fast of a time in the quarterfinals? This is like running 9:01 in semis.

Super close to WC standard of 8:15.0. I’m sure that he would have liked to get that out of the way. No risk to go for it. He was going to qualify no matter what. Even if he had to crawl in the last 2 laps

Yeah that was amazing. Fastest time we’ve seen in the NCAA since Rono (47 years ago).
This is a good year for the men’s steeple!

Also 3 from MSU advance.
American college record.
Neat!
He's got a whole week to recover, doesn't matter much
Still, 11 seconds to go, I dont see anyone ever getting this record. By far hardest record in the NCAA.

100% agree. Surprised by the amount of downvotes clearly 95% of letsrunners have never competed at a high level

There's enough time before the next round that he can still use this race to sharpen for the final and get plenty of rest before he races again.
Also, if you find yourself on pace in a race with good conditions, why not take a crack at the world standard?

If anyone in the NCAA knows what they are doing, it is Duncan.
