This thread was originally titled, "Incredible development in the $612,000 Transcon Goodge run, currently ongoing" but the new title is more descriptive. The description of the run is here.
UTMB will rent you a tracker, but they do not require one (at least not until Ironman figures out a way to make a ton of money renting them). The thing is, it's not like he's carrying a full kit when running, just strapping an Inreach to a belt should not be an issue
I didn't think that was really an insult. You have said many daft things in this debate. However you did insult me by calling me a lapdog of Will C. Even though in my previous post I listed a number of points where I disagreed with Will C. What kind of lapdog critices his owner? (But you've proven on many occasions you don't understand the definitions of words or phrases such as 'molest', 'red herring', 'good/bad faith' and others) The fact you chose this insult at the completely wrong time after my criticism was very daft.
But the jibes aimed at Will G's critics that we are all somehow blind acolytes of Will C is clearly bullsh*t. Like myself, many other critics of Will G's fake run have at times criticed certain arguments/evidence that Will C has raised. Will C has clearly been very heavily scrutinised by people in this debate who have still come to the conclusion that Will G is probably cheating.
On the other hand it's defenders of the scam that have been completely uncritical of all the skullduggery that the Goodge camp have got up to.
You even said yourself that Balanger told you that people who wanted to run with Will C had to visit in the morning. Don't you think this is a massive red flag that you can only run with him in the mornings? The time when he does seem to genuinely run slowly with a high heart rate. But nobody is allowed to run with him after his Nucalm nap when he speeds up while his heartrate goes down.
Please open your eyes and see how obviously suspect this is.
OK. Will is coming up on Allentown. Tracker is on Allentown BLVD. Here is a little Billy Joel to see if we can motivate to get some freekin boots on the ground and catch up with these pretty boy Grifters of the fine citizens of England. (I don't believe anyone in the US knows who these guys are besides letsrun).
In 1982, Billy Joel released an album titled The Nylon Curtain, which became a Billboard Top 10 album and was one of the first to be recorded, mixed, and mas...
Just started paying attention to this thread as someone emailed me about joining them to expose this as a fraud. A few questions as I don't have time to read 80+ pages.
1) Is everyone pretty much certain it's a fraud? 2) How in the world can their be debate after a month of running? 3) Wouldn't someone just have to find them and drive next to them for like 6 hours to see if it's legit or not? 4) What are the biggest red flags besides not publishing their route? I mean that is HIGHLY suspicious.
Stunned, we are even debating it at this point.
Hey ! Since you've primarily heard from all the doubters, perhaps a response from one of what they are calling the "believers":
Hi all, here's an update on another thread about the British runner William Goodge doing Transcon at the moment and some worrying irregularities.Namely that he runs at 150-170bpm in the first two days of his multidayers, colla...
1) No, not everyone. Unfortunately most of those that see this as legit have just dropped off because of the dismissive/derogatory comments made about them. There are a few of us still commenting/questions/challenging
2) The reason for the debate is because WC continually attempts to extract a new statistical analysis to further his agenda. He has been calling fraud since before they even began. Anyone who questions the validity of his findings are summarily dismissed.
3)WC did go out there for several days, to his credit. During those days, he stated that he saw this run as valid on his FB page. While he didn't like how they treated him (how would you feel if you are called a fraud, and a rock was thrown when he was driving too close--he claimed it was because of poor depth perception), he didnt' like that they crew left WG out on the run solo for much of the every 6-ish mile segments. But, all of the videos/posts discussing how he saw the run as valid were deleted by WC. He also claimed that they were trying to "throw him off" That is rather amusing since they days he was tracking them, they were literally running a straight road in Oklahoma.
I ran with him for a 10k segment in Missouri and saw him running some 250 miles prior 4 days earlier. Others have ran segments with him. But, those were quickly dismissed as insignificant.
4) Yes, a tracker on the person is the preferred approach. But, there is a tracker on the van. Is it written someone on here saying that a TC will not be considered legitimate if the runner does not wear a tracking beacon? He is uploading every Strava file 99% by EOB. And, he is wearing a Whoop device that will provide further insights. He did publish the route () Yes, they deviated from the published course when they decided to take a shorter route. That isn't a crime, is it? Has no TC runner ever deviated from the published route?

Why is it still being debated? Because it shouldn't be a 'just because some thinks it is a fraudulent run' makes it one. It is fine to doubt some of the elements. But, to claim he isn't a legitimate runner, or 'just a model', or an influencer, makes this journey fake.
Some has claimed that I am part of the crew--I am not. Some have called me a troll because I am challenging/questions/sticking up for WG- I am not a troll. I am a runner of 11 yrs who is inspired by people doing amazing things and pushing themselves beyond perceived capabilities. I have become a constant pain on this thread to many because they want to simply pile on/tear down this effort. My understanding is that LT was created as a discussion board for runners and subsequently started including running-related news. I didn't think it was just a witch-hunt board. Yes, y'all have identified several fraudulent efforts on here. Kudos to everyone involved. But, do you really want this site to just be a one-side, one-opinion discussion board? I hope not.

I mean that is HIGHLY suspicious.
Stunned, we are even debating it at this point.
People have covered all the main issues already. The only big red flag that I would add is the one I mentioned in the last paragraph of my previous post.
Will Goodge's biggest supporter in this debate, Recruiter 57, went out to run for about 10 miles with Will G. When he was asked in this debate about how he organised the run, he honestly answered that Will G's head crew, Robbie Balanger, said that they only wanted people to run with Will G in the morning.
However, every morning Will G's stats look clean. He runs slowly with a high heart rate. But in the afternoons after his nap he always runs a lot faster with a lower heart rate. This is what has drawn much of the criticism.
So I think it's a huge red flag that people are told they can only run with Will G in the morning when he's running slowly with a high heart rate. All the dodgy stuff in the afternoons seems to be off limits for people who want to run with him.
I'm surprised more people didn't pick up on this and make an issue of this.

along that line of thinking. They also require advance notice if anyone wants to run with him. Keep in mind, this was when he was out running in the sticks with nobody for many miles. They claimed it was for safety.

How can he stop people from running with him? It's public property. Does he have a restraining order on any of his accusers?

Tracker is at Sheetz convenience store. Somebody give them a call and see if they have some handsome chaps with British accents all lathered up with NuCalm and wearing half tights and no shirts in the parking lot. Tell they they say f**k a lot and like to drink Modelo beer. And one has an ear ring.
Now you’re into throwing around insults when I haven’t engaged with you for a while. That shows much about your character.

As you know there are different meaning for different words. Molest has a drastically meaning in the US than elsewhere. So my bias towards certain words should be understandable, I would think. As you say daft, l interpret as foolish. I do not feel what I have said is foolish. Obviously, you do. But I take calling me foolish an insult.
I don't recall calling you a lapdog...I think that was someone else. I called you/others disciples of WC. Yes, early on in the discussion who scrutinized some of WC's arguments.
But, since you have publicly stated you see WG as a fraud, you have mostly been in lockstep with WC.
For clarification, I said early afternoons, not mornings. I ran with him shortly after 12noon to be precise. As I witnessed, HR was low. Have you determined there is a zero % chance that the nucalm nap actually helps him recover and gives a second wind? Zero?
My eyes are open. Are yours? Or, are you unwilling to consider that all of the HR stats and the 8k split numerical overkill are the actual red herring elements to a legitimate run?

loads of misdirection in here. That thing about poor depth perception is what Sneakers said, and I quoted it back to him, and you then attributed it to me. Sneakers gave long rambling nonsense about why they threw the rock and said maybe I was a poor driver, who drove too close. All total, trolliing garbage. Even a crew member who was there simply acknowledged it by stating they'd quite simply had enough of me. He couldn't say anything else of course.
And in order to make things more peaceful I said maybe if I saw nothing strange or untoward on my visit, I could be assuaged, and you have twisted that too. I saw loads, and I was more convinced than ever that something was afoot upon my observation.

You state this opinion as a fact, which is something that always annoys me in a debate. You have no idea why all the other supporters have disappeared. Don't you think it's probably because after studying the evidence they changed their mind and think the run could be a scam, and they are now at least sitting on the fence?
There are a number of people in the debate who have been sitting on the fence, giving Will G the benefit of the doubt, but have now concluded that there are just too many red flags for them all to have legitimate explanations.
But you continue to show blind faith.

Your fake numbers in this thread clearly show you have severe cases of selective cataracts.

Did you not report that you were told you couldn't run with him later in the day which is when he does his fastest running? I don't know exactly when he takes his naps. I think he is often still clocking slow miles early afternoon, before he speeds up, but the point where he speeds up isn't exactly the same time each day.
I registered for Youtube Q&A and got the free week of Nucalm. So now I know for a fact it's crap. Well, it may be somewhat relaxing, but it's just the same as hundreds of different free relaxation videos on Youtube. So it's a complete rip off at $50 per month!
I have now had a couple of Nucalm naps myself between morning and afternoon runs. It didn't help me fall asleep and it did not help my legs recover. I can recover better with a nornal meditation that costs nothing!
Now I saw that you were also on that Youtube Q&A and you have admitted that it was basically a Nucalm advert. So I know you also got the free weeks subscription.
Therefore surely you must also know that Nucalm is not a miracle cure that turns you from a mediocre multiday runner to a world class one every afternoon when you take a Nucalm nap?!
Have you tried your Nucalm free trial? If not, why not if it could be so damned amazing!
How was I supposed to know that you were quoting it back? I saw your words and thought you were stating it.
If you didn’t delete the videos/posts, I would have gone back and referenced them. I have attempted not to misquote or misstate people’s thoughts. My goodness, you see me as some over zealot troll. I am not. I am passionate about my position, just as you are about your opinions.

No, I did not say that I was told I couldn’t run with him later in the day. I was told the preference was early afternoons around 30ish miles before his nap. That timing worked for me so I had no reason to push for a different time. I was working to fit it into my work day along with my wife’s ability to be my Uber :)
Does he really speed up post nap? I see the mile splits relatively the same but the HR appears lower.
Yes, I was on there. I was a little disappointed that it wasn’t q@a from those on the call, but purely focused on Ken??’s questions and pushing NuCalm. I did get the trial but have not signed up yet. I am wanting to give it a genuine try and I knew this week was not right timing. But I am not easily swayed by all those types of products. If I were, I would have bought all the things that say the could improve my golf game. Trust me, nothing will work for that.
He throws rocks and gets Balenger to scream at his accusers.
And people are letting him get away with this? Does nobody have the cajones and creativity to find a way to tame this kook? Put a restraining order or assault charges on him then.

I don’t state any of my opinions as fact. I have repeatedly stated them as my opinion. It is the exact thing I have attempted to convey with WCs statements—that they are his opinions not facts. I’m sure would say this of some of my comments, but just because the same thing is said over and over again does not solidify it as fact. Mass quantities of un validated data does not make it fact. I’ve seen variances in Strava data compared to Garmin data. Saying 300 times that he should have had a tracker on him is no more powerful than it was the first time it was said. I am not going on blind faith Luke. I am basing my opinion on what I saw with my own eyes, my feet, my conversations, and my bs detector. You labeled this accurately. This is a debate…a discussion, right? But anyone who challenges the majority is chastised and called a troll. Those are not elements of a healthy debate.
Sorry that you find that as nonsense. I, however, do not. You enjoy your pessimistic / everyone's a fraud world buddy!
Look, another go-to keyword: “pessimistic”! Nice job.
I thoroughly explained my balanced approach to believability to you on page 74 of this thread. Other folks kindly reposted it at the top of page 76. The fact that you never bothered to address it, and instead just regurgitate the same clichés, tells me you are a troll.
So I get attacked for commenting too much and now being blasted for not commenting enough. I call it as I see it, or in this case read it. Unfortunately pessimistic is an appropriate word for many of these posts. Sorry if I’m too optimistic for you…but a troll I am not. I don’t call you names but you find enjoyment is calling me them. Sad.
