Normally on Monday each week, I get into the office and read through Race Results Weekly to see if there were any events I didn't know about. I am doing it on Tuesday today as I had some personal commitments yesterday.
Anyway, I quickly see an event I'd never heard of:
Project 13.1 Half-Marathon
Rockland Lake State Park, Valley Cottage, NY; Saturday, March 25
Distance: 21.1 km, World Athletics-certified and record-eligible course
Finishers: 96 men + 64 women = 160 total
NOTE: At this invitation-only event, athletes were primarly targeting USA Olympic Team Trials Marathon qualifying standards (1:12:00 or better for women and 1:03:00 or better for men).
Can someone tell me who put this on? How did they get the word out? Was it totally flat? What was the impetus for it?
