$5 million or squat in the WNBA? Hmmm... tough decision. She would get destroyed against men and I played at a pretty high level. But wish her the best!
My guess is no! The stands are all empty. It’s comical. Yet espn wants to promote womens basketball to no end. Kinda sad. Women play inferior basketball to men and the games are boring
Iowa’s 71-69 victory over UConn at the women’s Final Four on Friday night averaged 14.2 million viewers on ESPN, making it the most-viewed women’s basketball game on record and the largest audience for an ESPN basketball broa...
The woman's NCAA had a once in a lifetime superstar and the first attractive star period. Let's see if it is a one off season or if it falls back down. I also want to see if the WNBA ticket sales are in line with the NBA and also want to see the respective TV deals. If they aren't withing 5% of each other the WNBA is just not a serious league

wow thats the most aggressive goal post moving ive ever seen. go back to the beginning of this thread. it was started based on the widely held letsrun misogynist notion that "nobody watches womens basketball". this has been proven about as wrong as can be imagined in the 26 pages since then up to and including last nights game. and youre only reaction is to drop a new list of conditions or it doesnt count? gtfooh.

Well, here we are, 18.7 million viewers for the college women's final, more than any basketball game in five years, and they did it with a star who was not sexy or attractive at all and who did not get in any scandals, not an instagram model, no dunks, just a really good basketball player. Great to see.
Neither national semifinal averaged as large an audience as Iowa-UConn in the Women’s Final Four the previous night, marking the first time ever that any game of the Women’s Final Four has averaged more viewers than either of the men’s games.
18.7 million viewers. Trolls crawl under their rocks, devastated.
LRC Trolls will simply use a different unregistered user name and recycle the same material because the brojos believe anonymity is key to honest and open discussion.
Seriously.
It's a mistake to presume that it is possible to shame a troll.
And ESPN paid only $34M/yr for the women's tournament, while CBS/Turner paid $1B/yr for the men's tournament.
That’s a criminal act on the ESPN’s part. The ladies should file a lawsuit against ESPN and demand 966M back pay. The Supreme Court is likely on their side.

Looking at a small sample size like one tournament is meaningless. It needs to be sustainably popular beyond one superstar moving on.
Caitlyn Clark was a huge draw for the women's NCAA but the men's NCAA have had generations of huge draws and when they go on to the pros you don't see huge dips in viewership. This isn't moving the goal posts, it's making sure the same measuring stick is used for both men and women without grading on a curve.
What is the 5 year and 10 year average? Again, looking only at a single year is disingenuous. They had a once-in-a-lifetime star and a compelling storyline but what will happen when that once in a lifetime star isn't there?

Other stars will emerge. Until the late 70s, men's basketball was not profitable.
I believe women's basketball has turned the corner. Young girls are growing up watching and admiring women basketball players. This will continue and they will go to games with their parents.
Maya Moore and Diana Taurasi grew up admiring male players but Caitlin grew up admiring Maya. And now young girls are growing up admiring Caitlin, JuJu, and others.
