To answer the OP, I don't know how many people watch women's basketball, but it's certainly a higher number than watch NCAA men's track & field.

As a previous poster stated why watch women when they are inferior to men. Then why watch NCAA track when they are inferior to pro track athletes.
I have watched Iowa enough. I know all the starters names, the asst. coach is attractive. Caitlin Clark is the picture of focus, concentration, and leadership. You may learn a lot about the game watching.
The game against South Carolina will be great study in contrasting styles.
One of the problems when watching wbb is that in games against the top teams it is all over in the second quarter.
Worthy of note: this number is higher than ANY NBA game broadcasted on ESPN thus far this year. I really wonder what kind of number we are going to get for the Iowa - South Carolina game. I have talked to a few people this week who dont ever watch basketball (men or women) at ALL and they have told me they plan to tune in because of the enormous social media buzz on this game (and on Clark).
Attendance during the NCAA tournament is MUCH higher than during the regular season.
Secondary market has less tickets available for sale.
This is a nice example of stupid people not having any common sense.
The men's game is at a football stadium with 80,000 capacity.
The cheapest seats where the first 20,000 people would sit are a close to a thousand dollars.
Comparing the nosebleeds at a football stadium for a basketball game to a basketball arena is silly.
I don't watch the ladies on the court but will check out South Carolina vs Iowa. This game should prove a few things shut a few people up.
worth a read all you "nobody watches women's sports" types. looks like the explosion of Cinderellas has hurt the men's game this year while the women are setting records again.
You should watch the Iowa-SC game tonight. Should be a fun game. Don’t think Clark can top her last performance but it’s worth a try. Did anyone check out the box score from Iowa’s game against Louisville? Iowa shot 16-35 on 3pa (45.7%) and Louisville was 8-22 on 3pa. Iowa’s 3s we’re crazy and Louisville’s pct was serviceable but not enough to win.
a lot of the commenters in this thread said things about the hoop being too high and more play needed to happen near the rim, but basketball is all about the 3s these days. And the women seem to shoot them just as well as the men. And Clark even better.
Tonight's game may not be the best 'sell' for wbb, but it will be interesting. SC will play like a boa constrictor, just squeezing the life out of Iowa's 'fun n gun' offense. Clark & team trying to overcome SC defense will be a challenge, but it might get ugly fast.
Assuming Boston goes pro, SC will operate next year without a dominant post. They have, however, recruited well. Question is will they drop off, or stay at top of game as a new 'program'. I would have bet that Ionescu had done enough to make Oregon a program, but just a couple recruiting misses relegated them quickly to just good.
Cardozo will become dominant next season. And Staley is already checking the transfer portal, even though she does not know which seniors will return.
I don't know why you compare SC to Oregon. SC's dominance is not based on a single player like Oregon was. If anyone is comparable to Ionescu and Oregon, it's Clark and Iowa.
So almost the entire country has become the Hawkeye nation.
I have also read that some people are rooting against LSU and USC because their coaches are paid way more than the other two.
Wow, I never even thought about a coach's salary in any sport.
I think it's like rooting against an MLB team with a fat payroll, which is actually pretty common.
A cynic would say that LSU and South Carolina have something else in common that the other two dont that might make them less appealing for the average american... But its too close to game time to have a culture war discussion. I am stoked...
Entertaining
If anyone thinks this stuff is still boring, I don't know what to say.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
