That was crazy impressive. Closing in 2:34, wow.

13:56.82 National Record. Closes in 2:34
With authority. Once he turned on the jets, it was over.
Danny Simmons also under 14. As a Junior
amazing run
Won’t break 13:20
Do you have more details? Links?
Amazing, by the way! Sub-14 in high school. That's crazy!
Great race for him. Not sure why they were running 14:10+ pace for the first 4000m. He had to close really fast to get that record.
Simmons had to close the last 200m in 29.2 to run sub 14.
EDIT: Sorry, you can go to the above youtube livestream and just rewind it a bit to the Boys 5K, final heat. Also in the race, Lex Young.
Lex Young just outside sub 14.
2:02.94 for his last 800. With a K to go I was sure that sub-14 was off the table.
1. Tyrone Gorze 13:56.82
2. Daniel Simmons 13:59.96
3. Lex Young 14:00.64
Credit to Simmons for leading from about 200m to past 4k. All 3 kids are capable of considerably faster.
im a bit confused, didnt lex young run 13:43 once? why isnt that the hs record?
Because it’s a race that they all wanted to win, front-running 25 laps with guys on your tail is mentally taxing and it’s natural to make sure not to overcook it, and Simmons looked like the only one of the 3 willing to lead.
Indoor
Indoors vs. Outdoors. Of course Lex’s 13:43 isn’t the HS record outdoors because Rupp ran 13:37 (in Europe the summer after his Sr. year, but it counts).
That was outdoors where the national record is 13:37.91 by Galen Rupp.
Yeah, with the slow (in the context of their finishing times) early pace and the amount of traffic they had to contend with, I feel like we can expect even better performances from these three in the next few months as long as they stay healthy. It looked like Tyrone, Daniel, and Lex may have lapped all the other runners in the field except for the 4th, 5th, and 6th finishers. The last kilometer of that race was chaotic to watch with the amount of lapped traffic they were all contending with and all the weaving that Daniel and Lex had to do.
Ok, but Young said he was going after the record, yet they went out at 14:20 pace for the first K.

Was that in the same race as Lex Young? Or is Lex in a different 5k?
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
