Let that sink in
Let that sink in
It sank in now what....
Jakob has been training like a pro since he was 10, which is more relevant than their actual ages at this point
its better to piss in the sink than to sink in the piss
Ok yes, but it sounds better when we call him that.
Yared is showing tremendous improvement this year. How much has Jakub improved? Jakub could've already peaked, if he was "training like a pro" since he was 10.
Jakob has been peaking since 2018 according to this board.
Yarood is done.
Pretty sure you were the one who mouthfarted that Jakob peaked at 16. Yet here's Jakob sleepwalking to a 3:32 while your man can barely dip under 3:34
Jakob soloed a 3:32 and wasn't happy with it, Yared peaked for Milrose and is already trending downwards. Jakob probably ran 120 miles a week leading up to his 332
More ego issues on this message board. Framing perspectives to make you feel good about yourself.
I feel like Jakob’s 1:46 800m seems to be the fastest he can go without sacrificing the endurance his 1500 relies on. With that being said I think his 1500m ceiling is around 3:27.5 and his 5k ceiling is in the low 12:40’s just due to his size.
However, I think the odds of him losing both the 1500m AND the 5k in Paris are pretty low even though there are guys with a shot of beating him in both events. That means he’ll probably end his career as a two time Olympic Gold medalist a 3:27 1500m runner, and like a 12:42 5k runner. That would definitely make him one of the best ever.
And, yes, I think he peaked in 2021 and he’s been in about 3:27-3:28 shape since then but just hasn’t gotten the right race opportunities last year. If he can just hold that peak for another 5 years it’ll be a tremendous career.
Big Jakob fan, but Yared is looking unflappable. Throw a healthy Wightman and Kerr into the mix and we are in epic territory.
Jakob hasn't peaked yet. Most athletes will reach their physical peak between 26 and 28, and that's irrespective of how young they were when they started training. That Jakob had a heavy load from age 10 is only an advantage for him and leaves everyone else playing catch-up. With modern sports science, he could be at the very top into his early thirties - just look at LeBron, Messi, Ronaldo, Djokovic.
The biggest impediment to Jakob staying at the top is mental burnout but becoming the only three-time Olympic champion in the 1500 seems to be a big motivation for him
Exactly. I think a lot of people (myself included at times) weren't sure if Nuguse would even progress post-collegiately, much less emerge as the best miler in the country by a distance. "Up and comer" may not be totally accurate but Nuguse is certainly "on the rise," while Jakob is as established as they get. Again, doesn't have anything to do with their age or even their relative abilities against each other, just reflective of where they're at running career-wise.
Cool I forgot the part of running where being younger is an advantage and makes one runner better than the other.
Jakob is very good for his age, from what I've heard.
Y N is more likely to have a 2 plus second improvement, outdoor 1500m than J I.
This reminds me of those signs for swimming pools that read: "This is our ool. Notice there is no 'p' in it."

Because he is just starting his pro career.
yakub would be running like 3:50 in the 1500m if he was coached by carlson
this is only the beginning for nuguse
