Enjoyed Mark Lewis' 2 hour video on whether or not he'll move house.
Really gripping stuff and an amazing use of my spare time.
Mark is like the living embodiment of a best case mid-life crisis. Starts hitting the TRT, buying a bunch of fitness gear. Uses it to get in shape, make some cash on YouTube and meet a younger partner. It's mostly harmless stuff. I don't mind some of his content. But he's still clearly a bloke going through a mid-life crisis.
I think BITR has several people/employees where this is their full time gig.
They previously had a PR firm that did PR for some big race companies. They made a big deal of it on a podcast when they shut that down to focus on YouTube. I think at one point in time they had a running specialty store too (they may still have one, I don't know).
I know they have a little shop/studio in Baltimore, I don't think it's a specialty store but just a place where they host events and sell their branded merch. All that being said, I wouldn't think their podcasting/YouTubery would generate enough income to allow even one of them to give up their day jobs, but I could be wrong. Just basing my estimates on what other ShoeTubers have said publicly regarding their revenues.
My guess is that their aligned PR company (which they never mention) also does promotion work in the running space (not just races but also with brands)... if so, any relationships they've formed with these companies should also be disclosed in their videos, but alas...

My guess is that a lot of the revenue must be coming from a trust fund, or some kind of family investor.
They are under 100k subs on YouTube, and they're videos do not do very well. Some of their podcasts barely crack 1k views, and they have a recent one with only 935 views. They don't really train, don't over any kind of running specific content, just products.
Divide the no YouTube revenue by the amount of people on the team... Either someone is really rich in that group or they are all very dumb. Which I think is both
Did some digging. The store/HQ generates income by selling, podcasting. The use of IG posts, YT videos, various podcasts generates traffic. They collect IG posts and use it as a lever to get brands to cough off cash. See their media booklet on the website.
They plan IG posts, YT videso, to generate traffic, which in turn generates income.
All work full time (two founders, lead contributer, media person). Yes, they generate over half-million to support the facilities and staff. A successful model, no wonder everyone is trying to suck up to BITR.
also Nick Bester about to do an Ultra tomorrow - the perfect way to recover from back to back Marathons....
His initial coaching in London and I think early running had an ultra focus as typical of RSA.
One coincidence is that about 35 years ago an RSA runner called Nick Bester actually won the Comrades Ultra so if you were wishing to earn some income as a coach of ultra runners then it's not a bad name to trot out. Is it called Brand Recognition?
Seth states that he's had a lot of family obligations and that he wants to race but has cancelled all his races this year. He seemed sad to have to miss the Bolder Boulder.
In other words the only way he is able to race is when he ignores his family? Don't we all have family obligations but we still train and race?
The google concepts of advertising have not changed from static media to dymanic content to video.
Google will know if you have potential to yield income right away and will calculate a risk factor to tell them whether to overpay you the first few months. This is to hook the user.
Drama for clicks and engagement. Act sad, cite family obligations, then watch your fans pour out their well wishes and prayers while asking what they can do to help?
Just keep on clicking, subscribing, liking, and buying DGR merch!
Maybe I'm just old and grumpy, but I feel like Phily Bowdens channel used to be fun. Now it feels a bit... desperate? I'm not sure, hard to pinpoint any change, maybe it was always like this, but it just feels very try hard these days
When his fans or friends tell them him how fast they had to run to qualify and he responds with "I just hooked up with a brand". People are just pissed off and haters.
Youtube legend Alex Filitti, who bought his Instagram followers, ran the Geneva marathon today. He mainly ran 50-60km per week and started with a pace of 3:51 per kilometer. At the 30km mark, he jogged at a 5min/km pace and abandoned the race. Quite a bold move to start at full throttle!
It's time to catch up with our favorite running YouTubers:
. . . .
The Greatest of All Time, the original running YouTuber, clearly reads this thread. Seth, we are a bunch of internet losers who would be lapped by you in the 5k, stop taking us so seriously. Anyway, Seth states that he's had a lot of family obligations and that he wants to race but has cancelled all his races this year. He seemed sad to have to miss the Bolder Boulder.
Am I sensing that STHNE is softening on SJD (or is it sarcasm)? Honestly, I think some of his recent vlogs are some of his best in years.
It also seems like he is getting in shape -- he is running 100 mpw -- and I would not be surprised to see a 2019-like Summer/Fall for him with doing mostly Mountain training/racing and jumping straight into a road marathon(s).
His best running years are behind him. I honestly think he's scared to race again... and I'm not convinced he will actually the tone the line again besides pikes peak this year. As far Boulder Boulder goes, this is a major missed opportunity for him but since when has he ever done anything that actually makes sense... You would think with his "clothing brand" (definitely not merch) he would be trying to get out there in the community and prompting it.. tabling/showing up to local races... showing up at local running groups...Doing minor sponsorship of races... But nope. He just blasted his youtube channel for a couple months and then really hasn't mentioned it since...He doesn't have the follow through to build an actual business.

I believe his Dad is the Nick Bester who won Comrades, not sure if the current ShoeTuber is a II or a Jr. He spoke about his Dad being a great athlete on his channel a while back.

This would be the perfect time for him to transition to ultras. The speed will slowly start to go on him, but he's still a lunatic capable of grinding out big volume and climbing well. But we all know he's too unfocused and stubborn to learn how to race one properly. I'm almost 100% sure he's driving Uber again but he'll never admit it.

Oh yeah, I remember him. He's the guy who was upset when his bike support crew wasn't let on the course at Tokyo (where he was presumably running on a free Asics bib). He rambled on about how he pictured he was going to have a bottle on demand on the bikes and since it didn't go how he pictured, he lost focus. I actually do think marathons should go towards handing out bottles for everyone to reduce waste and improve hydration. Hand out a 32 ounce bottle of Gatorade at each station, but you only get a bottle if you give a bottle back. I think that'd reduce waste and be better for runners. I don't think people should have bike support crews on courses.
