She was doing really well and I was looking forward to seeing her race in the ACC conference this season. But, she is from LA. For an LA kid this move is not surprising. UCLA is also a great school.
Pretty sure she just got on the portal this morning. Pretty quick turnaround to announce a commitment of a transfer. Seems highly likely that some recruiting has been in the works before she was on the portal…
Hmmm... enters the portal and transfers the same day... interesting.... tamper tamper now
It's most likely that she wasn't enjoying being so far from home and made the decision to leave right after XC finished. She then made a plan to leave and go to UCLA. Why be in the portal for longer than necessary with these circumstances?

you can't talk to coaches until you are in the portal... so she planned to go there without talking to anyone.... hmmm... okay that's probably it.

That’s a somewhat ridiculous rule, if true, because sometimes things need to be talked out with potential interests before taking the next step of action. For example, a transferee, in initial stages of contemplation, may want more info, without having to go public revealing their possibility of transferring, which at that stage, may only be a remote possibility, so they wouldn’t want to upset their current apple-cart.
However, I understand the other side-of-the-coin, whereby tampering rules are in-place to inhibit external coaches from upsetting someone else’s apple-cart.

I'll be sure to let the NCAA know it's a ridiculous rule. I'm sure they'll change it for you.

Why would she need to talk to anyone about this? She wants to be close to home so she decided to transfer to UCLA. Maybe running wasn't the main driver here. The transfer portal is just a formality as she is good enough to walk on to any coach's team anywhere without any notice. UCLA probably hadn't allocated all of it's track scholarship funds and Mia will likely get some, but she might be getting zero this coming term.
But flotrak is already the locked-in streamer, and the OLy and pro running scene has the established players. Not sure a rogue Instagram running personality can do much better than Seth DeMoor?
Makes no sense to me. Obviously she's from CA and UCLA is a great school, but UVA is an incredible program full of youngsters. They were 9th at NCAA XC this year with 4 sophomores in the top 65, and zero seniors. She improved incredibly this past year after her 44th finish at NCAA XC, not to mention her 4:33 mile indoors and 4:11 outdoor 1500. I don't know if UCLA will even make it to nationals with Barnett, as they were only 13th at XC regionals last year. UVA is a young program that is building momentum, why jump ship now?
Because there’s more to life than running? She could be homesick, didn’t fit in at UVA, didn’t like the location, etc etc etc. People transfer all the time, if she wasn’t happy there for whatever reason then who cares?

Not only that, but others predicted there would be 2 high impact transfers in a previous thread. Someone who’s a UCLA insider knew she was transferring to UCLA before she entered the portal and that happened without any discussions? Stop it please.
Also, don’t tell me she and her family were going to assume or trust she was going to get an acceptable amount of scholarship $ without a discussion.
