Anyone of you that believes this lie is a fool. All hires are approved for all sports, the AD is in charge of the department budget, I have no idea why you would think track is somehow too low to be a concern of the department head. Quite frankly it is a stupid and childish thought process. Grow up
I want to know what schools you've coached at and I want to coach there. I've coached in several different divisions/levels for over 20 years, from tiny DII's to DI P5 (multiple), and not once did my AD ever ask about the assistant hires we made. Yeah, maybe the final paperwork needed their signature...but it was a rubber stamp signature. Sounds like you've had a more positive experience with your admin realizing you exist & caring about your success...I'm jealous.
Plenty of AD's have instructed head coaches of women's teams to hire female assistant coaches.
as a future college Track and field coach could you guys send out some rounded salaries and division of school you are at to give me an idea of what my worth can be and what job salaries are out there?

Anyone have any insights on pay differences between coaches in different divisions in the NCAA? I know head coaches at big D1 schools will be paid a pretty nice salary (assuming 100-300k at the top?), but what are D2 or D3 sc...
Good to see that Williams has gotten XC sorted. A few months ago they announced that the head women's track coach was also leaving (moving to another role w/in the college, not coaching), so is there any word yet on who is filling that role at Williams? That's a lot of change, especially if you're a female distance runner.
I believe the job posting said they were going to start processing applications for the women's head coaching role around mid April. However idk if that's just a formality and they already have someone in mind. I'd imagine it's a fairly sought after position considering the women won a national title right before Covid. Does anyone know if the job is a true women's head coaching position or do they just have it structured that way so they can hire more full time coaches to focus on a certain event?

Good point. That's the one time AD's get involved in the hiring process.

No you have not. I can tell by your answer that you lied about where you have worked. Not once is the first clue. Even intimating that ADs never ask about the hiring of assistance is a ridiculous assertion. I am not here to play semantics with you. The associate AD in charge of your sport was DIRECTLY involved in who is hired, the HR department and AD send out the directive of preferred hires. And ultimately, they approve those chosen hires. These are facts. You can try to pretend it is not, which means you think the influx of women hires and people of color are some convenient natural occurrence that just so happens to coincide with the public push for more diversity in the department. That is one helluva a coincidence you are alluding to.

I have not lied about where I have worked. But you did catch me in an unintentional exaggeration. A more accurate statement would have been "I have never once had an AD get involved with the hire of an assistant when they didn't have a preferred gender/race in mind." I HAVE had an AD (not THE AD) "offer direction" when they were wanting it to be a female/minority. And for the record, I do not mind this/I understand why/I accept this is the way it works and am all for it. But admin has certainly never cared about the quality of any hire as it pertains to the team's athletic/competitive success. I'm jealous of anyone's that does.
It would be incredibly surprising if the hire is Sweeney. The guy can barely provide high level high school results at a D1 university. What makes anyone think he would be elevated to a better SEC program?
They need someone who has the ability to change the culture of the program. There’s a lot of talent on the roster but missing a leader figure and somehow who has experience in turning a program from sub par to great
The University of Central Arkansas Bears Men's and Women's Track and Field teams welcome a new coach to the staff. Michael McGruder will be taking the position as

Sweeney here. Only replying bc I keep getting asked by people about this thread, I don’t go on this site bc Lord knows this is all everything devolves into lol. Didn’t know the Mizzou job was open, didn’t know people knew I existed, definitely not leaving Lamar unless I get fired for barely providing high level HS results at a D1 university. Speculation over, hate to spoil it!
