Her half marathon is worth a 2:11:32, and each word record she gets moving up in distance is better than the record she had at the shorter distance. She probably won't go 2:10 in her debut, but she is capable of it.

With that, I actually agree. I just can't imagine a world record in a marathon debut only five months after a track season that ended in world championship gold.

Well we'll see soon.
Interesting. I took her losing the 5k as a good sign for a similar reason, but we will see.
She is a better runner than some of these South American and Central American runners who post times around 2:09 and 2:10:00 for the marathon. I think she will go between 2:09:50 -2:12:00 first time out. I think she can also run sub 14 minutes and sub 29 minutes on the track (5000/10,000), in good conditions. Before the end of her career I think she can run the following times. 13:50, 28:50, 1:01:00, 2:09:00. Crazy prediction? Not really based on her true potential. She is in someway revolutionizing women’s running.
2:12:53 Will be interesting to see if any Women try to run with her. Ethiopia Woman have been Great in Distance running for a long time, but the last few years I see notable improvements 1500-Marathon including the Steeple, even had a few young Ethiopian Woman in the 800

You really live in la la land. Like there is no chance she will ever run 2:09 or 13:50. This just makes you appear to be a fanboy.

Sir, you might have to change your mind on Sunday when she possibly runs a superb time in the range that I predicted. And yes I am a fan.
Using the "Runhive" marathon race prediction calculator and guessing that she runs 120 miles/week, 2:08:49 was the estimate provided. The inputs used are her half marathon PR, her 5000M PR, her age and training volume. I don't honestly think she will run 2:08 but this weekend is going to be extremely interesting. We might see the type of improvement that Paula Radcliffe achieved
Someone else posted this article earlier this week. It's a real mess and terribly written
The article is purely: 1) Listing WR progressions 2) Reference Gault 3) A statistical comparison of percentages, for hypothetical female performances vs. male
Not forgetting: - Moaning about top athletes making it harder for others - Implies elite athletes should get a job
I have no idea why this piece was written other than to direct a moaning monologue towards casual sports fans, because nothing in here is very nuanced or new information for even the average track fan.

And he doesn't understand the energy efficiency premise. He gets caught up in the false belief that racing faster = more calories burned.
But so do most people. But that's no excuse because even if he was shown to be wrong, he would still be in denial. Such is his demeanor, a malcontent, angry about the wrong issues.
I suspect that she has been offered a serious financial incentive if she runs a WR for this race. She'll chase a WR time for the potential dollars it can bring.
If the bonus is for a new WR, she will go out "conservatively" and make sure she will get the record. I think it will be something like 1:07-1:06:45 for 2:13:45.
If the bonus is the same for 2:13 or 2:11, why try to run faster and risk blowing up? Just get the record, and then leave some room for the next record attempt.

Lot of weird replies here. Women's marathoning started like nearly a century after Means. They're still catching up in terms of accessibility and interest for the sport of running. You can't have it both ways: fast times or doping allegations, right? Not everyone you lack commonalities with is a doper
How many of you also predicted a sub 2:16 for Hellen Obiri in New York?
But that was dumb because helen obiri runs like a beached whale whacking its fins. You can't possibly think that Gidey will end up the same as Obiri when you contrast their running efficiency. Gidey is like a well oiled machine that pukes all over the place after masterfully executing its task
... ever wonder why all the ugandans have the same names as all the kenyans?
I am not knowledgeable in East African demography, but the Mount Elgon geographic area, which is the stronghold of Ungandan distance running, borders with the western Rift Valley area, which is the stronghold of Kenyan distance running. So maybe they are simply from related ethnic groups.
