It is entirely possible that LG is past her prime. I know she is young but she has not run close to her best times this year. I think we have seen the best of LG and that her decision to move to the marathon appears desperate to me. Expect a 2:15 or so.

She just won her first world championship against probably the strongest field of all time and you think she’s past her prime? Be serious.
Personally, I believe she will break the record. I’m predicting 2:12:18. Every time she’s taken a shot at a record, she’s succeeded. While the marathon is a different beast, so is Letesenbet Gidey.
Conditions will be good. I doubt she will attempt the WR. There have been a fair number of runners who were exceptional at 1/2 to 10k who did not have any success in the marathon (Zersenay Tadesa for starters). I think she will look for a solid win and shoot for 2:17. On paper, she should be able to drop 2 min of the WR. But why push yourself that hard at the beginning of your marathon career when you can get a comfortable win and race again this spring.
Marathon debuts don't tend to be world records, but in this case I'll make an exception to that rule. Gidey has run amazingly well in off-season road races and with 14:06/29ish/1:02:49? plus that astonishing 15k time at 7 Hills, she is surely capable of running 2:11 high or 2:12 low in Valencia, a race you wouldn't do except for time.
I suspect that she has been offered a serious financial incentive if she runs a WR for this race. She'll chase a WR time for the potential dollars it can bring.
The sport is beyond disrepair. The supershoes are a red hearing for the edemic doping problem in Africa. Not just Kenya.
Are we supposed to believe the Ugandan domination in events is natural too?
She will probably run 2:12. Hooray.
How are we supposed to believe that the fastest times EVER run in events where doping is rife are clean? If you do, I wonder what Santa will be bringing you for christmas? Maybe some Livestrong bracelets.
ever wonder why all the ugandans have the same names as all the kenyans?

The field did not impress me and neither did her victory.
What is really important since no one follows these weirdly named foreigners is what would Tuohy run. That is what we really want to know.
As Astro says - this Gidey chick is likely doping and WADA is letting her (and all the other Ethiopians, Kenyans and Ugandans) get away with it. Africa should be banned - Sisson is the real WR holder.
I highly doubt that she can get a WR this year. She was too good over 10,000 last year and this year, to now switch gears well enough for a WR. Think Bekele, think Kipchoge, think Kiplimo, think ...
