Good for Katelyn. This is a great thing for NCAA track and field, and has the potential to create some celebrities who would otherwise not be well known to the public.
And . . . 1969, long ago . . . Curt Flood challenging MLB's reserve clause which eventually led to free agency . . . in the end, too late to help him . . . but it sure did help everyone else who came after him, in all pro sports . . .
Katelyn Tuohy's adidas deal is available to athletes who go to school at an adidas sponsored school.
Since she's got a good Instagram following, she could potentially rake in six figures, if every one of her followers bought something from adidas through any links she puts up, on top of whatever adidas is paying her.
She will be given the same perks as the pros while in college, pros receive money, and newest adidas gears and shoes to promote.
This is basically making her the brand's Ambassador, by this deal they can use her image for adidas promotions and commercials etc. and thats with PAY!!
It seems like there isn’t much difference between going pro and getting an NIL deal.
Actually, there's a big difference. Pros get to choose when and where and how often they compete. Collegians, whether they have an NIL deal or not, don't.
She’s been an unpaid celebrity for a half a decade, whose performances subject her to attention and scrutiny on online communities like this. It’s high time she is able cash in on that celebrity.
+1 Glad to see that it no longer has to be a choice between College or Making money off your image and likeness. Well deserved. Good for her. I hope this attracts more stars to the college system. Imagine if this had been an option for Noah Lyles or Ajee Wilson!

The highest paid college athlete is LSU gymnast Olivia Dunne. It's not even close. She deserves every penny. Good for Katelyn, hope she makes a bundle and keeps improving.
Dunne is the highest paid female at something over $1 million. Bryce Young had over $3 million a year in NIL deals. I’m laughing at the concept from earlier in the thread that his is about free shoes and warmups. I wouldn’t be surprised if Tuohy is getting over $100k from this. She has the highest name recognition among the key youth demographic of any runner on the planet.
Ms Touhy NIL deal has to be worth way more than 100k. 250k plus to stay and graduate I'd bet. In hopes she stays added as after college!
UA isn't paying Braelon Allen directly but he does have to wear their gear while playing football (UA deal with Wisconsin). He could do a NIL deal with any company he wants to. What's interesting is suppose Nike gave a NIL deal to Tuohy? She would still have to compete for NC State in adidas uniform gear, but would the coach allow her to compete in Nike shoes? Or could the coach even dictate that to her?
